Issues

Ultramar sector, Macragge System on the agrar planet Nova Thulium: Marneus Calgar is preparing for the war the coming war. The first issue starts with a brief flashback from the end of the 13th Black Crusade; a last defence on the same place he is now. Marneus explains the situation to the tech-priest adept Quintus Hexamar that is tasked to be his aid in organizing the supply for the war. The story continues on the nearby Calgar estate on Ultima both in this time and in the time when Marneus was a boy.
The second issue mostly takes part in the past when a couple of boys were sent to training as aspirants to become neophyte marines. The training takes place on the planet's harsh moon: Thulium Minor.
The trials of the aspirants continue on the moon and takes a horrible turn.
The excruciating process of making a space marine from a neophyte is described with Marneus as example. In the present, Marneus battles Chaos forces on Nova Thulium and then relocate to the moon to inspect the fortfication works.
Calgar's deadly gambit brings him back to the moon where it all began…and an enemy who has been in hiding for centuries! To quell the threat of this darkest power, Calgar will show no mercy.^[4]
