Nekkaris is an Imperial world that is covered in eternal night, as the sun that once lit its horizon is gone. The world's moons cast no light either, as they are battered lifeless husks and beyond that, is nothing except the faint shimmer of distant stars.[1]

History

In late M41, the world was secretly invaded by the Chaos Lord Da'ka Jumoke, who sought to cause the Flesh Tearers to fall to Heresy. To that end, he corrupted one of its citizens, named Gylon, into the ways of Chaos. Gylon would then become a Demagogue and created a Chaos Cult, which later began an uprising with Jumoke's aid. The world's capital was then seized by the Cult, who began killing anyone not willing to worship the Chaos Gods. The Flesh Tearers would then come to aid Nekkaris and began advancing upon the capital with the world's military. However before the Imperials could reach the capital, the Cult and Warband launched a continuous artillery barrage from armored vehicles, which stopped the advance cold. Even with the Flesh Tearers' might, they would not be able to survive the Chaos forces' rate of fire and so Captain Temel was selected to lead a group of Scouts to destroy the artillery. Doing so would then allow the Chapter to advance upon the Capital with the world's military.[1]

While the Scouts would succeed, the Flesh Tearers would instead leave Nekkaris in 998.M41, in favor of answering a plea for aid from the Blood Angels. This was met with dismay from the world's military and nine of its troopers committed suicide as a result of the Chapter's departure. The Flesh Tearers' Chapter Master, Gabriel Seth, felt time was of the essence, so he even refused to wait to evacuate Temel's Scouts and instead regretfully left them to their fates. Gylon soon informed Jumoke of this and hoped that the Chaos Lord, would give the order to fully seize the capital from the Imperium's control. However Jumoke gave his Warband the order to leave Nekkaris instead. As with the Flesh Tearers gone, the world no longer served to aid the Chaos Lord in his quest of corrupting the Chapter. Gylon would implore him not to abandon his Cult with victory so close, but doing so led Jumoke to show the Demagogue that the same applied to him. The Chaos Lord then killed Gylon by ignited the Demogogue aflame with his gauntlet. With the Flesh Tearers and Jumoke's Warband now gone, Nekkaris has become a warzone between its military and the leaderless Chaos Cult.[1]
