Olin Fencer
Olin Fencer was a Captain of the Vervun Primary, the standing army of Vervunhive on the planet Verghast.[1a]
Biography
Fencer and his men were stationed outside Vervunhive's walls at Outhab Southwest when the corrupted army of Ferrozoica attacked Vervunhive. His unit of 50 men, unprepared for an attack, took heavy casualties in the initial waves of artillery bombardments and were unable to communicate with Vervun command as their vox-links had been destroyed. Lacking orders, Fencer followed emergency protocol and, even as the shelling continued, he and his surviving men started erecting defences - trenches, mines and barricades - to slow down the attacking Zoicans. They also received unexpected reinforcements in the form of outhabbers who had survived the bombardment; Fencer had every able-bodied man and woman his unit encountered pressed into service and ready to stand against the Zoicans.[1a]
When the Zoicans led their first attack on the hive, Fencer and the men and women under him managed to kill an impressive number of Zoican soldiers, including the destruction of at least four tanks. Unfortunately, there were simply too many and, despite holding their position against the enemy for hours, Fencer's unit was slowly ground down. Most of the Vervun were killed with Fencer himself shot by a Zoican las-round.[1a] The survivors eventually regrouped under one of the conscripts - the miner Gol Kolea.[1a][1b]
