Sanakht[5]

Sanakht was a former member of the Thousand Sons legion.

Overview

He was of the Athanaeans and a student of ancient swordsmanship techniques and of such great skill, that none of the Thousand Sons' Corvidae were able to see visions of his eventual defeat. Sanakht survived the razing of Prospero and fashioned a tower for himself on the Planet of Sorcerers.[1]

After Fulgrim's ascension on Iydris, Lucius heard of Sanakht's peerless skill from Hathor Maat, and made to challenge him on the Planet of Sorcerers. Sanakht, welcoming the challenge yet offering advice to Lucius, was eventually defeated by Lucius. Before Lucius could deal the killing blow, however, Sanakht was saved by a psychic barrier cast by Ahzek Ahriman. Ahriman commented that while Sanakht would not have saved himself via sorcery, his own need for Sanakht meant that he had no such qualms.[1] Ahriman later recruited Sanakht in his attempts to find the Shards of Magnus. Sanakht was accompanied by Lucius, who was eager for a rematch with the warrior.[4]

Sanakht survived the Heresy, and shortly after would be one of Ahriman's supporters in the events leading up the Rubric of Ahriman. During the Rubric, Sanakht defended Ahriman against Iskandar Khayon's attempts to stop it; though Sanakht succeeded in defending Ahriman, Khayon left Sanakht psychically crippled. Sometime after Ahriman killed Amon, Sanakht would join Ahriman's warband.[2] For many years he served Ahriman, but became disturbed as Ahriman sought the Shard of Magnus in the Athenaeum of Kallimakus. Knowing Ahriman sought the Athenaeum to complete his Second Rubric, after the failure of the first, and after witnessing Ahriman's willingness to sacrifice many of his Sorcerers and the the other costs of his fanaticism, Sanakht became disenfranchised with Ahriman's leadership and conspired with Ignis to kill their master.[3]

During the battle in Apollonia, Sanakht and Ahriman went to the surface with a contingency of Rubricae. Before reaching the Athaenium and under the influence of the resident blanks, Sanakht struck, giving Ahriman his power sword to duel him. After the one-sided fight, a wounded Ahriman informed Sanakht that he foresaw Sanakht's betrayal and invoked several contingencies. Ignis, Sanakht's co-conspirator, was a double agent acting under Ahriman's orders. Before he could kill Ahriman, Sanakht was interrupted by Grey Knights from the Inquistion fleet. In the confusion, Ahriman killed the blanks, restoring his power and his Rubricae. Ahriman purged Sanakht's mind and free will and installed the Shared into Sanakht's body as part of the ritual to enact the second Rubric, and escaped to Ignis's ship before fleeing the system.[3]
