The Sentinel Guard were a unit of the Custodian Guard during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy. It was one of the two sub-factions of the Hykanatoi Caste alongside the Hetaeron Guard.[1]
The Sentinel Guard were the defensive formation of the Custodes, designed to function as a mobile bulwark to protect emissaries or other important targets against enemy attack. In order to achieve this they were most typically equipped with powerful Praesidium Shields and Sentinel Blades. Due to this role, the Sentinel Guard displayed a level of teamwork, coordination, and synchronicity that was unseen by the rest of the Custodes.[1]
