Severus I
Duke Severus the First was a Rogue Trader and war hero of the Angevin Crusade in M39 who was instrumental in conquering the Calyx Expanse. The only reason why Drusus surpassed Severus in fame was Severus' ill-fated decision to greedily consolidate his gains during the Crusade rather than continue on to conquer more worlds.[1a]
This loss of prestige bred resentment and anger in future generations of his family, as they felt that they should have been heirs to a legacy even greater than that of the now-Sainted Drusus.[1a] They squandered the substantial assets that Severus left to them in an effort to raise his public profile[1b], even as their family dwindled in power and influence, to the point that their Warrant of Trade was revoked.[1a]
His descendant, the corrupt Duke Severus the Thirteenth would eventually secede from the Imperium to create the Severan Dominate.[1a]
