A Smart Missile System is a Tau missile launcher that fires self-propelled auto-tracking missiles.
The tracking system is provided by a Drone-level artificial intelligence which makes the projectile completely independent of the firing unit. This allows for the firer to engage targets that are outside their line-of-sight,[1][2] hide behind the terrain[3] and the missiles are not affected by fighting in low-light or nighttime conditions.[1][2] Smart missiles can also be used to intercept incoming missiles in mid-flight.[4]
