Cadian Kasrkin Storm Troopers

Storm Troopers form the elite force that is a Storm Trooper regiment.5 They are regarded as the most highly trained and lethal men and women that serve under arms in the Imperium, short of the Space Marines themselves. Their training makes them more suitable for use in assaults, as fire support troops or as an infiltrating force to carry out special objectives.

Storm Trooper recruits are chosen from the progena of the Schola Progenium, where they have been trained and indoctrinated, and molded into loyal and dedicated servants of the Emperor. They are then taught superior battle tactics and the use of more advanced equipment than the average Guardsmen.

Storm Trooper units are assigned to Imperial Guard regiments for a specific campaign, mostly a single company at a time. Regular guardsmen often regard the inimitably dedicated and better equipped Storm Troopers with a certain amount of animosity, referring to them by such names as 'Big Toy Soldiers' and 'Glory Boys'.

The Storm Trooper's standard equipment is superior to regimental guardsmen and includes carapace armour (superior to the standard flak armour in use by regimental guardsmen) as well as the Hellgun, a higher powered lasgun which incorporates a targeter.

More recently, Storm Troopers are being equipped with hotshot lasguns, a type of modified lasgun with a supercharged magazine with armour-piercing core.5

Storm Troopers are used throughout the Imperium. Regiments that commonly employ Storm Troopers include:

Variations of Storm Troops

Kasrkin

Kasrkin are part of the Imperial Guard Structure and are dedicated to the security of Cadia. Their name comes from the title of the cities of Cadia, which are "Kasrs". Thus, City Kin.

These are the elite of the already superior Cadian military and are picked up while still serving as Whiteshields in the Cadian armed forces. Their training is comparable, if not better to that of Storm Troopers (they are the Cadian equivalent) and they are utterly dedicated to the preservation of Cadia, whereas Storm Troopers are indoctrinated to the defense of the entire Imperium.

They are highly trained in the use of numerous weapons, and are armoured with Carapace Armour. They have an ethos of duty and honour and a devotion to the Emperor that is impressive for members of the Imperial Guard.5 Whereas the standard Storm Trooper is looked down upon by Imperial Guardsmen, the standard Kasrkin is looked upon with favour. They are the ultimate warrior to fight against the enemies of the Imperium (such as the forces of Chaos), and they lead the charge in the defense of Cadia. To be a Kasrkin is to hold a position of honour, and all Cadians recognize this.

Grenadiers

Grenadiers are similar to regular Storm Troopers, the difference being Grenadiers are fully part of their regiment and hail from the same planet as the rest of the troops. The best of the regiment's troops are formed into elite Grenadier squads, receiving superior training that make them the equals of Storm Troopers. Unlike Storm Troopers, Grenadiers do not deep-strike or infiltrate. Grenadiers also count as Troops rather than Elites.

Cadian Shock Troop and Terrax Guard regiments notably make use of Grenadiers.

Inquisitorial Storm Troopers

The Inquisition maintains a number of fortresses throughout the galaxy, both secret and known to the inhabitants of the Imperium. The Inquisitorial Storm Troopers have the duty to protect and provide security to these fortresses and the Black Ships. They are recruited from the Schola Progenium. Some well known families have a tradition of service in the Inquisitorial Storm Troopers. The training and equipment is equal to the elite Storm Troopers of the Imperial Guard. Furthermore they undergo ongoing purity and incorruptibility tests, prior to and following their induction. Inquisitorial Storm Troopers are also often called upon to assist an Inquisitor on active assignment.

Combat Use

While Storm Troopers are organized into entire regiments, the commitment of an entire regiment in one campaign is exceedingly rare. Most often, companies or even platoons of Storm Troopers are attached to Imperial Guard regiments in order to aid them achieve their objectives.

A squad consists of between four and nine Storm Troopers and a Sergeant. They can be armed with Hellguns and Targeters, or hotshot lasguns. The Sergeant may carry a Hellpistol or hotshot laspistol and Close Combat Weapon. They are all armed with frag and krak grenades and may also take Melta Bombs. They all wear standard Carapace Armour. The Sergeant may be upgraded to a Veteran Sergeant who will likely carry better equipment than a standard Sergeant. The squad can also include up to two Meltaguns, Plasma Guns, Flamers or Grenade Launchers and one Storm Trooper may carry a Vox-caster. The squad may also be mounted in a Chimera.1-p43
