Cadian Kasrkin Storm Troopers

Storm Troopers are highly-trained shock troops forming the elite force that is a Storm Trooper regiment. They are trained to carry out special operations such as deep strike assaults, reconnaissance, and infiltration beyond enemy lines. Storm Troopers are the very best soldiers the Imperial Guard has to offer, being trained to the peak of human perfection, their combat skills are unmatched within the ranks of the Imperial Guard.5

Storm Trooper recruits are chosen from the progena of the Schola Progenium, where they have been raised and educated, and molded into loyal and dedicated servants of the Emperor. They are then taught superior battle tactics and the use of more advanced equipment than the average Guardsmen.

While Storm Troopers are organized into their own Storm Troop regiments, the regiments are not deployed as a whole. Units (most often single companies) of Storm Troopers are attached to other Imperial Guard regiments for a specific campaign, to provide an elite specialist core entrusted with carrying out important missions requiring more training and initiative than possessed by the average Guardsman. Storm Troopers are effective at spearheading assaults into heavily fortified positions, infiltrating behind enemy lines and sowing confusion and panic. They are often dropped into the thick of combat from Valkyrie, guns blazing before they even touch the ground.

Regular Guardsmen often regard the inimitably dedicated and better equipped Storm Troopers with a certain amount of animosity, referring to them by such names as 'Big Toy Soldiers' and 'Glory Boys'. Regardless of the opinion of the average Guardsman, none who witness Storm Troopers in action can deny they are worthy of such titles.5

Storm Troopers are deployed throughout the Imperial Guard. Regiments that commonly employ Storm Troopers include:

Equipment

The Storm Trooper's standard equipment is superior to regimental Guardsmen and includes carapace armour (superior to the standard flak armour in use by regimental Guardsmen) as well as the Hellgun, a higher powered lasgun which incorporates a targeter. They are equipped with both frag and krak grenades.

More recently, hellguns are being replaced with hotshot lasguns, a type of modified lasgun with a supercharged magazine with high armour-piercing capabilities.5

Variations of Storm Troops

Kasrkin

Kasrkin are part of the Imperial Guard Structure and are dedicated to the security of Cadia. Their name comes from the title of the cities of Cadia, which are "Kasrs". Thus, City Kin.

These are the elite of the already superior Cadian military and are picked up while still serving as Whiteshields in the Cadian armed forces. Their training is comparable, if not better to that of Storm Troopers (they are the Cadian equivalent) and they are utterly dedicated to the preservation of Cadia, whereas Storm Troopers are indoctrinated to the defense of the entire Imperium.

They are highly trained in the use of numerous weapons, and are armoured with Carapace Armour. They have an ethos of duty and honour and a devotion to the Emperor that is impressive for members of the Imperial Guard.5 Whereas the standard Storm Trooper is looked down upon in envy by Imperial Guardsmen, the standard Kasrkin is looked up to with favour. They are the ultimate warrior to fight against the enemies of the Imperium (such as the forces of Chaos), and they lead the charge in the defense of Cadia. To be a Kasrkin is to hold a position of honour, and all Cadians recognize this.

Grenadiers

Although comparable to Storm Troops, Grenadiers are fully part of their regiment, having been recruited into the regiment at the time of its creation along with the rest of the Guardsmen. In any regiment there are naturally individuals who prove to be superior soldiers. In some regiments these troops receive special training which makes them the equals of Storm Troopers. They are then formed into their own squads. Unlike Storm Troopers, Grenadiers do not deep-strike or infiltrate. Grenadiers often make up part of the ranks of the more elite and shock oriented regiments, most notably the Cadian Shock Troops and the Terrax Guard.

Inquisitorial Storm Troopers

The Inquisition maintains a number of fortresses throughout the galaxy, both secret and known to the inhabitants of the Imperium. The Inquisitorial Storm Troopers have the duty to protect and provide security to these fortresses and the Black Ships. They are recruited from the Schola Progenium. Some well known families have a tradition of service in the Inquisitorial Storm Troopers. The training and equipment is equal to the elite Storm Troopers of the Imperial Guard. Furthermore they undergo ongoing purity and incorruptibility tests, prior to and following their induction. Inquisitorial Storm Troopers are also often called upon to assist an Inquisitor on active assignment.

Notable Storm Trooper formations

2378th Storm Troopers company - Operation Deathblow: Three volunteer squads led by Colonel Scheja attacked the HQ of Tau Army near Tarokeen in order to kill the alien leader, Ethereal Aun'Vre.4
