Overview
A Supression Force is designed to pin down the enemy's forces, allowing the highly-mobile Space Marines to operate at will. It is composed of two to five Whirlwinds and a modified Land Speeder. The Land Speeder, equipped with additional communications and targeting gear, acts as a spotter for the Whirlwinds and coordinates their fire. The addition of the Land Speeder allows the Whirlwinds to provide suppressive fire at much longer ranges than typical for such platforms.1
Jagrvelj Skyhammer, Master of the Arsenal of the Storm Ravens Chapter, first used this formation during the Rhopara Crusade. Stripping his Land Speeders of all unnecessary armament and equipping them with terrain-following sensor arrays, he used his newly-formed Supression Forces to assault the Rhopara sector capital. His success saw the formation adopted by the rest of the Chapter, and by the Adeptus Astartes as a whole.1
