Talk:Malal

This article is pure supposition, the author must provide a concrete link to the WH40k universe.--Proteus77 20:27, 30 March 2012 (CEST)

I agree, at most a note should be added to the MALICE article--Ashendant 21:51, 30 March 2012 (CEST)
I disagree. This page re-adds alot of info that was previously here, but for some reason got deleted and re-directed to a single line on a different page. The old page even had background info explaining the copyright problems that led to Malal being dropped from the background. The problem with this current page is that the sources aren't acceptable. If we could get the original sources for the page then this could be a great pagey-wagey, with just a bit of re-formatting etc needed. The Lemur 22:12, 30 March 2012 (CEST)
If we can get the original sources, I agree that A.) Some of the non-objective and out-of-universe language should be revised or deleted and B.) This should be a standalone article that mentions Malice in an out-of-universe publication history section.--Harriticus 22:19, 30 March 2012 (CEST)
I've never actually seen Malal used in WH40K, just fantasy...--Ashendant 22:20, 30 March 2012 (CEST)

The original Malal fluff was in Realm of Chaos, which spanned both 40k and WFB - it didnt make destinctions between the two. The Lemur 22:23, 30 March 2012 (CEST)

Yes Malal was originally concieved back in the day that Fantasy and 40k were supposed to be in the same universe and was mentioned in both in the Realm of Chaos era (Though I have both books and don't know if he's in there/haven't noticed him). Due to copyright issues GW got rid of the concept and changed him to Malice, who is only mentioned once in the context of the Sons of Malice.--Harriticus 22:30, 30 March 2012 (CEST)
I'm probably be wrong about RoC being the source then - I havent actually read one of those books since about the time they came out! He's definately from that era though. Unfortunately if we can't get the legit sources this will have to be deleted - but I definately think it should be left up for a while, to see if the author of the page (or anyone else) can get the proper sources. The Lemur 22:36, 30 March 2012 (CEST)
Malal is so old it predates RoC, and he's conspicuous by his absence in both of those texts, AFAIK. I have both of them if anyone knows the actual area he's supposed to appear in, but there's nothing obvious in the contents or a quick flick. From what I can (very, very dimly) remember, Malal was part of the first edition of Fantasy, but got dropped for the above mentioned copyright reasons. The only thing close to mentioning him recently is that short story about the Sons of Malice. I haven't even seen a scan of a source that mentions Malal; it's just ancient fluff people remember and pass on, and so I don't even know where to suggest looking apart from 1st ed Fantasy rulebook and associated WDs and Journals...--Mob 01:08, 31 March 2012 (CEST)

You are prob exactly right. Ive got most of the WDs from about issue 100 and I dont ever remember him being mentioned tbh. The only time I actually saw Malal referenced 1st hand was in an ancient WFB game (not sure of the name - you placed lots of cards on a long board, think it might have been called "Chaos Marauders") that had a unit called "Claws of Malal" and obv this isnt relevant for 40k. The Lemur 01:27, 31 March 2012 (CEST)

So this article? what do we with it?--Ashendant 14:19, 31 March 2012 (CEST)
If it has no sources: to the flames with it. --Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum 14:42, 31 March 2012 (CEST)
I already notified the author on his discussion-page. Writing this article was his very first contribution to the Lexicanum. Let's give him some lenience until Sunday evening, before we delete it. --DetlefK 15:17, 31 March 2012 (CEST)
Well, this is mainly a translation about the German lexicanum article. I supposed it would be normal to have the same information for everyone, so here's the article. I'll try to find the sources by myself but it'll be hard because the Germans didn't give info about that. Thanks for giving me a chance to improve it.--Skefrep 16:15, 31 March 2012 (CEST)
If the German article has no valid sources, i will go too. Andf by the way: exactly for this reason it is a BIG NO-NO-NO to just translate other Lexicanum articles! --Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum 18:28, 31 March 2012 (CEST)
I tried to find as much as I could. I hope it'll be enough to save this page. -- Skefrep 14:20, 1 April 2012 (CEST)

The problem is that almost all the sources you have found are for WFB, not 40k - so they dont really have any relevance. The only 40k sources given reference Malice and the Dreadaxe, there is no mention of Malal itself. I've done a bit of reading up on the subject, and it appears that (as Mob said above) Malal only ever featured in WFB, never in 40k. I would recommend we do what Proteus and Ash originally suggested -

  • Delete Malal page as there is evidently no mention of him in 40k at all. Make Malal a redirect for Malice again.
  • Make a proper Malice article, rather than just a single line on the Gods of Chaos page.
  • Add some of the Malal info to the Malice page in a seperate "Previous Editions" section (or something like that).

That way we can still keep some of the Malal info, but we are making it clear that he/it is not considered as current canon in the 40K universe. The Lemur 15:54, 1 April 2012 (CEST)

I agree, this seems fair enough. -- Skefrep 16:43, 1 April 2012 (CEST)
