The symbol shown as the Chapter symbol is, in fact, the badge of the first company, The Firedrakes.

The Chapter badge is a salamander head in colours appropriate to the Company.

Characteristics

Salamanders have coal black skin and red eyes due to the high radiation levels of their homeworld.

Combat Doctrine

I've made a few corrections mainly spellings. For example 'Promethean' is 'ean' at the end not 'ian'. I've also changed the bit about the number of terminator suits to say that we have 120 veterans instead. I've done this because there is nothing to say anywhere how many suits we have. In fact the Dark Angels codex says they have more than any other chapter so it is reasonable to suppose that we have less than 100. The difference is that we are better able to maintain the suits we have and can field more of them at one time.

I've altered this slightly. In fact the major factor in preventing training with bikes and speeders is not high gravity but rather the fluctuating nature of the gravity.

Reflexes of the Salamanders

The most likely reason the Salamanders are slower than other Space Marines is the fact that Nocturne has high gravity, thus making the Salamanders normally heavier, thus slower. Although this is not for certain so I have not added it into the main article. -: Watcher

end times?

the primarch vulcan and leman russ state that they will return in the "end times" what exactly is the end times

No one really knows. Sounds like the final battle against Chaos or something monumental like that. Reminds me of the Rhana Dandra, which is kinda of the Eldar equivilent. Would be good if they came back but they would be a little old by then!--Jonru 09:31, 17 April 2008 (CEST)

Third Captain?

In the new book Salamander, Page 422 near the bottom of the page, it mention's that Agatone is now the new captain, I would edit the main page put I have never done it before.

Could you possibly provide an excerpt from the book proving that? -General Nikolas 12:21, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

I've changed the citation in accordance with the above statement. It occurs during the Epilogue chapter of 'Salamander', and as that is Agatone's first appearance as Captain his citation is indicated as such. In accordance with Lexicanum rules, I've avoided using page numbers, as in my edition of Salamander this event only occurs on page 442 at the top of the page. -Adranus 11:20, 23rd June 2013

Which is their callsign?

SA or SM? There doesn't seem to be any consistency.. With the exception of the Salamanders, all of the Legions have a 2 letter callsign. - NemFX 02:41, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

What's a callsign? --Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum 09:18, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
A callsign would be like the Ultramarines have UM, the Imperial Fists has IF, the Crimsons Fists has CF. -General Nikolas 12:23, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
That does officially not exist. "Fans" make up their abbreviations owever they like. --Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum 13:13, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
Well which is more commonly used for the Sallies? SA or SM? - NemFX 15:46, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
Not that it would matter here, but SM is generally the abbreviation for Space Marines. Never seen the SA in the context though. --Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum 20:34, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

Page Wording

Maybe this is just nitpicky of me, but this line right here bugs me: "So unstinting were they in these arduous but unsung duties, the Salamanders were to earn the gratitude and respect of thousands of Imperial Guardsmen and civilians." If the pursuit of these duties earned the gratitude and respect of thousands of Guardsman and Imperial citizens, then those duties have been pretty effectively 'sung.' Is this viewpoint too nitpicky and I should just leave well enough alone? I ask not because this one example is just too damn important, but for future reference in other articles. -- Conn 10/1/11 21:30 -8 GMT

A signature is created by writing 4 tildes.
I suggest rewriting this part, but not because of your reason, but for it's too poetic. --DetlefK 21:02, 2 October 2011 (CEST)

Citation needed

Can someone please match Citation "9a" to the information in the article?--Proteus77 23:43, 25 June 2012 (CEST)

Done. Although it's not now "9a" as I've had to re-organise citations (There was two separate lists for Imperial Armour 10), it has been matched to it's position in the article - The Fires of Phaistos Osiris. Adranus 20:36, 23 June 2013 (CEST)

Citation Issue

The citation for Tu'Shan coming to blows with Captain Vinyar of the Marines Malevolent is currently stated as being White Dwarf #300 (US), page 122. However, on searching an internet copy of said issue, no mention of this event is presented. Therefore, I've changed the citation to 'Emperor's Deliverance', a short story by Nick Kyme, that explicitly mentions this incident. However, if this is contested, at least readers can see why I've changed it and from what. --Adranus 13:07, 25 May 2013 (GMT)

Dragon Warriors

Chapter Three of Deathfire mentions that when the Salamanders were a Legion, they were known as the Dragon Warriors before Vulkan arrived. Here are the exact words from the book:

Gently, Var’kir laid a gauntleted hand upon Zytos’s shoulder. ‘With his influence are we made protean, brother.’ He smiled warmly, despite their bleak surroundings. ‘We are much changed from the Dragon Warriors we used to be.’ Few in the Legion knew, let alone spoke, the XVIII’s old cognomen. To do so prompted a reminder of the great shame it signified, of the days before Vulkan had taught them pragmatism to temper their self-sacrificial natures and humanity to counter their abyssal anger.

Should I edit in this info? And if I do where would be the best place to put it?
