Users will see a 1-5 second choidflare challenge screen when attempting to access Lexicanum. We have activated the Cloudflare security umbrella to protect us against a DDoS attack that has been targeting Lexicanum for several hours. We will turn it off when the attack subsides. (probably only a few hours). [[User:Bigred|Bigred]] ([[User talk:Bigred|talk]]) 12:26, 14 May 2019 (MDT)

We are beginning the process of slightly lightening the desktop wiki for 40K-english. Many of the dark template elements are jarring and difficult to read when used on the lighter mobile template, so we are lightening neutral colors by 30 points on the 256 RGB scale. This will take time, but is underway. The goal is to bring the desktop colors slightly closer to the colors of the mobile template which now represents over 50% of Lexicanum traffic.

Welcome to Lexicanum! We hope you will contribute much and well. You will probably want to read the help pages. Again, welcome and have fun! Bushidorp 06:45, 3 September 2014 (UTC)

This grey is kinda bright

I agree that the grey of lexicanum needed to be lighter to make it easier to read but this isn't so much as lighter as it is brighter and kinda contrasts horribly with the rest of the wiki. Could you maybe try a slightly more mellow shade of grey. My suggestion is the grey on the homepage which seems to be lighter than it was(I think) without being exceedingly bright. This is just my opinion anyway. Thanks.--Ashendant 09:25, 7 September 2014 (UTC)

Yes, the grey is too bright, but this might be unintentional. With the dark grey background, colours don't have the same shade in the Lexicanum as they do in other wikis. You can't trust the usual colour-codes, it's just trial and error. --DetlefK 11:40, 7 September 2014 (UTC)
Why not try white text on a dark background? It'd fit the style of the site much better. --Digganob 21:01, 8 September 2014 (UTC)

Necron pages edit.

Hello, due to the new Necron Codex being released I think we should edit the Necron pages to keep up with the new edition,

Thanks. Zombiecreepe

Darkelf77

A User named Darkelf77 keeps adding "citation" templates to pages that do not need them. [1] This is an example--it is a general character description from a novel, most likely will be used as the summary before someone fleshes it out. [2] This shows his willingness to add the citation when there are specific chapters listed. He is doing this at a mass level and crowding the Lexicanum with unnecessary citations. The user does not seem to produce much else. Midnight Sun (talk) 07:05, 19 December 2015 (MST)

I follow the rules, according to which there must be stated Chapter of the Novel/Novella about every information, including in the article. In this case [3] - in the text of atricle stated the information "Molech - The Knights-Errant undertook their first mission as a full squad at the behest of Leman Russ, who worked with Malcador to send a squad to infiltrate Horus's flagship, the Vengeful Spirit", which only referred to the Novel at all, not just to any Chapter. As for Mister Midnight Sun, I think he has a lack of information about what I have done to clarify and adding to the articles Darkelf77 (talk) 16:53, 19 December 2015 (GMT+2)
When you summarize a whole novel, you can't put chapter lists. Midnight Sun (talk) 09:11, 19 December 2015 (MST)

New bureaucrats for the german Lexicanum

Hey Bigred, the german Lexicanum has a big problem: New user's accounts have to be activated by a bureaucrats, but it seems that all current ones are inactive. So we can't get any new users! In the forum we have decided that AlphaRonin would make a good bureaucrat. Please participate in the discussion in the forum too (I think everyone speaks english there). --Fira (talk) 15:51, 14 February 2016 (MST)

Ban Needed for User Prophaniti

[4]

He insists on adding in rumored statements in an off hand blog post that are not official in an official area. He has been shown why the tease of pictures is wrong. It also has serious ethical and legal ramifications for us making claims that there are official names and titles for publications. He refuses to back down, and he has contributed very little in general besides disruptive trolling like this. He also refuses to abide by standard Wiki etiquette, including responding directly on a page and breaks up conversations to make them the most harassing as possible. Midnight Sun (talk) 06:59, 8 January 2017 (MST)

Please check out his user talk page to see that there are fundamental problems with this user that he refuses to correct. Midnight Sun (talk) 07:01, 8 January 2017 (MST)
A few points, if I may:
Specifically, I'm attempting to add information regarding upcoming HH releases, and for some reason Midnight Sun seems to take offence at this. I've pointed out how the Warhammer Community website is an official source, owned and operated by GW, but he ignores this and continues to dismiss it, primarily it seems because of a single typo he found there. I think the ludicrousness of this is pretty clear.
In addition, his manner is unnecessarily aggressive and hostile. I'm apparently a troll for having a source he wasn't aware of or doesn't like. I'm apparently "harassing" him by entering into a discussion with him. I'm apparently making conversations "the most harassing as possible" [sic] by responding to a user on their page (done because I wasn't sure if he'd get a notification of it if I responded on mine).
Having a contrary point and wanting to enter into a discussion is not "trolling", disagreeing with someone is not "harassment". Midnight Sun needs to calm down and handle this properly, or else nothing will ever be contributed here. If he wants to discuss it, to talk over any genuine issues, I'm fine with that, I can even leave off on reverting until it's settled. Which is surely a more constructive offer than demanding someone be banned for disagreeing with you? Prophaniti (talk) 08:43, 8 January 2017 (MST)
K well here's what we should do.
1.) all Horus Heresy releases aren't added on the "official" numeric list until they're available for pre-order on Black Library and we have the final details
2.) We keep the "possible future releases" section and put stuff like Crimson King, Old Earth, etc there. Complete with the cover art presented with the note that the cover isn't final. No numeric order is given to the book until it's up for pre-order. Anything put here easily reversed and revised later on and hurts nothing. If a book is never released or cancelled we just put a note about it on the article proper and remove it from the list.
3.) You two stop going at it and nobody gets banned
We have too few contributors as it is without people attacking each other. This won't be resolved for quite some time at least as Bigred only comes on about once a month.--Harriticus (talk) 09:16, 8 January 2017 (MST)
Everyone Calm Down! OK, as has been mentioned the goal is to incorporate the latest "official" GW released info into the wiki. The wiki is about canon, so it is no place for rumors, or grainy pictures taken from unreleased products, or scraped up from random internet forums or Facebook (BoLS covers that well enough). That said, yes we need to acknowledge that the Warhammer-commuity website https://www.warhammer-community.com IS an official source of news and information from GW. I will leave it to the Lexicanum admins to work out a system of sourcing information that comes from there when it needs to make it's way into the wiki. (As a real 2017 issue, how do you think we should handle canon information that comes from their GW videos?) But as with all things Lexicanum, the information must be canon and we must make pains to separate the "real world retailer info" from the actual confirmed canon information that should live here. GW is opening up more and more, but aside from model-centric entries, Lexicanum always needs to focus on the canon-backgrouns side of things. So long story short: Should we integrate images and canon information that GW's media arm is now producing and can be found in their blog and movies - YES. Should we include all the non-canon retail-real world based info that is also present in many of these sources - NO. Should we integrate non-offically released information and images from about upcoming products - NO. Bigred (talk) 15:02, 8 January 2017 (MST)
The problem is that the website is a blog, and is not even copyedited (Holly Terra!!! :D). They tease things, but only to try to stir up the community. Many of the artwork proposed as covers do not make the books, and even distributors have had to change things before. If we host things like [5], we put ourselves at legal jeopardy. It was removed from the website and completely renamed due to legal issues. It was a proposed title/cover that was not part of the official product due to legal issues. Midnight Sun (talk) 17:39, 8 January 2017 (MST)
That's where the discretion and needing to codify how we cover GW media channels will be needed by the admins. In cases like an upcoming miniature it's easy. The new plastic Lord of Change, or images of upcoming characters from an imminent book due out in days aren't going anywhere and are fairly safe. In the case of an item that was legally changed, I still don't see any liability as long as the item is properly labeled. If the cover of a book was released by GW initially, then changed, then we should label it either as the cover of the product, then overwrite the image with the final, when it comes out. Or alternatively it can labeled as exactly what it was, an early product image released publicly that was later updated/cancelled - effectively making it apocrypha, and the later versiona also added to the publication entry for completeness. Overall the goal for publications (books, codexes, miniatures) should be to cover GW items that they have announced themselves - in a thorough historical manner. If variations occur during the development process, I leave it up to you to decide whether we should only document the most recent version, or show the entire history of the product's evolution. Take a look at this page on The Acaeum https://www.acaeum.com/ddindexes/setpages/deities.html for an good example of how to cover a product that evolved over it's publication history due to legal challenges. Bigred (talk) 18:31, 8 January 2017 (MST)
May be it would be better to make a special banner for insides of article - like we have in case of "Trivia" or "Fanatics", but name it as "Upcoming Releases" or something. After the real release of some product this banner can be removed. --Darkelf77 (talk) 05:47, 9 January 2017 (MST)
How does this sound: We make a special banner called "GW Marketing Materiel" That includes the note. "This first appeared in official Games Workshop marketing material. It may or may not have appeared in a finished GW retail publication or product" Then you source it to the GW URL(Warhammer Community site, GW facebook, GW blog, Black Library, etc) of where it was initially found with a date. Does that satisfy all you loremasters? Bigred (talk) 11:25, 9 January 2017 (MST)
I like it.--Darkelf77 (talk) 10:51, 11 January 2017 (MST)
I do too. And reading the above, have we reached the conclusion that Warhammer Community -is- an acceptable source, and information on upcoming releases from there can be added within an appropriate "upcoming" section until it comes out properly? Prophaniti (talk) 11:30, 12 January 2017 (MST)
Yes, Warhammer Community, GW official 40K Facebook page, or the various official company blogs (Black Library, Forgeworld, etc) are legitimate. To err on the site of caution, I would say ignore GW retail store Facebook pages, as those are notoriously unreliable and not under the control of GW marketing staff. Bigred (talk) 01:08, 13 January 2017 (MST)
Good stuff, cheers BigRed. Prophaniti (talk) 11:42, 2 February 2017 (MST)

Prophantii Again

[6] He keeps insisting moving something from a future release section to a current release section. He has a history of only trolling. He provides no actual content work. He needs to be banned. Midnight Sun (talk) 19:18, 4 March 2017 (MST)

[7] Just look at his contributions. He refuses to discuss things. He doesn't understand how talk pages work. He just throws things randomly in there. This is a major problem. Midnight Sun (talk) 19:21, 4 March 2017 (MST)

Prophaniti yet again

User Prophaniti continues to insist on movie future releases into the current releases section. He provides no actual contribution to the Wiki but this vandalism. It makes it really hard to fix articles and keep them up to date when he is constantly dicking around with little details and inserting errors. Midnight Sun (talk) 11:33, 16 May 2017 (MDT)

[8] His lack of contributions. Even his name denotes that he is here just to cause problems. Midnight Sun (talk) 11:35, 16 May 2017 (MDT)

Please Ban Already

[9] He still insists to move a book that is not yet released out of future releases. He does NOTHING ELSE. He is a single purpose troll account created solely to vandalize. Please remove ASAP. Midnight Sun (talk) 14:57, 2 June 2017 (MDT)

Ban Request

Can you please ban this user http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/User:Sidian

He's vandalizing the site with subtle false info.--Harriticus (talk) 18:45, 10 July 2017 (MDT)

Do you mean his edits to [10]? Was it not in the issue? There are some edits that seem legitimate, like this [11]. You removed his correction and his change in the sentence structure (that seemed fine). I would like some more info. Midnight Sun (talk) 21:28, 10 July 2017 (MDT)
I personally know this guy and he's making fake articles as a joke to mess with me. The Mikael Jayek article is a reference to the two hosts of Red Letter Media (a youtube channel) and him adding "Low Tier God" to another article is a reference to the youtuber Low Tier God. Some of his older edits seem to be legit though but he's been making fake articles as pranks as of late--Harriticus (talk)
I honestly have no idea what you're talking about Harriticus. Are you angry that I edited an article of yours or something? Check the source for yourself. Sidian (talk) 23:11, 10 July 2017 (MDT) 22:52,

10 July 2017 (MDT)

No. I have all WD and in the White Dwarf 286 (UK), on pg. 71 there is no any information about Mikael Jayek. This is scanned page: [12] --Darkelf77 (talk) 23:57, 10 July 2017 (MDT)
As I said, Mikael Jayek is just a reference to a youtube channel he often talks about. I know this guy and he's trolling.--Harriticus (talk) 00:11, 11 July 2017 (MDT)
It seems pretty clear now that he was fabricating stuff. Midnight Sun (talk) 14:37, 12 July 2017 (MDT)
@Darkelf - Weird, that's not the same as mine at all. I had a subscription to White Dwarf in Australia, are they different or something? I assumed all commonwealth countries would get the UK version. Sidian (talk)
Upload a picture of the page. Midnight Sun (talk) 19:20, 12 July 2017 (MDT)
I am loathe to ban anyone, but vandalism is a "one strike and you're out" offense. Lexicanum prides itself on it's accuracy and sourcing. Anyone caught playing pranks and altering content for a laugh is GONE. That said I would like to have 2 current admins both publicly request the banning here and I will take care of it. Bigred (talk) 01:21, 13 July 2017 (MDT)
I don't think there are any other active admins for that--Harriticus (talk) 02:07, 13 July 2017 (MDT)
Would you mind putting the ban through? He's vandalizing peoples profiles now, see http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=User:Harriticus&curid=26457&diff=312357&oldid=294036 --Harriticus (talk) 19:16, 15 July 2017 (MDT)

I want Sidan to respond to my request to put up pictures. Now, as we are accusing people of inappropriate behavior, I would like someone to check this against the sources for plagiarism [13]. The tone is completely off ("Like shadows racing across the night sky a salvo of boarding torpedoes silently bore down upon the Well of Souls)" and I would like verification that it is not copied directly or only barely paraphrased from the source. Midnight Sun (talk) 21:12, 15 July 2017 (MDT)

Ban put through after research for vandalism and intimidation. The War of the Wolf post needs to be paraphrased and/or rewritten as it is too similar to the source material. Bigred (talk) 23:00, 17 July 2017 (MDT)
I'll rewrite war of the wolf in the coming days, thanks for the ban--Harriticus (talk) 13:35, 18 July 2017 (MDT)

Admin

Before the hacking you made me an admin of the fantasy lexi, but the rollback removed that position. Could you restore it, so I can try and fix some of it's problems? I tried sending you an email about it with the Email this user feature, but I don't know if you received it, since when i tried to change my password earlier using the "forgot my password function" it didn't send me an email asking me so.--Ashendant (talk) 16:29, 14 August 2017 (MDT)

Shift

  • Hi. What happened with the Lexicanum-40k pages? Yesterday it was normal - 1, today is not - 2 (left panel longed). Note: on Fantasy Lexicanum there is no such a problem.--Darkelf77 (talk) 03:20, 7 September 2017 (MDT)

No worries. We are repositioning some of the ad units (not adding any) and aren't done yet. It will all look good shortly, then we will move the changes to all the other wikis. Bigred (talk) 10:00, 7 September 2017 (MDT)

  • Oh, OK then. Thank you!--Darkelf77 (talk) 11:41, 7 September 2017 (MDT)
Still the same. Too wide left panel. As I understand - now it will be permanently?--Darkelf77 (talk) 04:42, 14 May 2019 (MDT)
Left column has a correct width to house the ads units within it. Bigred (talk) 09:04, 14 May 2019 (MDT)
I also noted on 1st Regiment today that I was not able to click on the French Interlexicanum link because it was blocked by the centre bottom ad... And I couldn't scroll further down because I was already at the bottom of the page to make it accessible without actually clicking the ad away. --Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum (talk) 04:48, 14 May 2019 (MDT)
There is a small grey box with a black "X" on the upper right corner of the center lower ad unit. Pressing this will make it go away for cases such as this. Bigred (talk) 09:04, 14 May 2019 (MDT)
Yes. I just wondered if there was the possibility to define a "security spacer" to avoid it... --Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum (talk) 12:08, 14 May 2019 (MDT)
I'm unsure of exactly what is being proposed by the "security spacer". If you can explain further, or perhaps email me a mockup screenshot I will gladly take a look. Bigred (talk) 12:14, 14 May 2019 (MDT)

Please Keep an Eye on

[14] Please keep an eye on User:Inquisitor S.. He has a history of unconstructive edits, even if they tend to be minor (like this deletion of a comment because he was trying to deny what a book said to push a fringe point of view [15]). He is not a native English speaker and has disrupted the flow and language of pages in addition to putting up information contradicted in various texts. He is a left over from the old Lexicanum and was not well-respected back then. Midnight Sun (talk) 10:01, 16 January 2018 (MST)

[16] Like this - he created this page. Highly inappropriate use of the tools. Midnight Sun (talk) 10:03, 16 January 2018 (MST)
Inquisitor S is incapable of providing positive contributions here and should not be allowed to continue. Midnight Sun (talk) 14:10, 16 January 2018 (MST)
I advise to remove Midnight Sun from the Lexicanum project, at least temporarily for baseless accusations (see my user talk page, insulting users (me and Haravikk and presumably others) and creating tension by his inappropriate behavior (lies, aggressiveness, slander etc.). In addition he does not have any clue how the Lexicanum software works, as he is clearly ignorant of the fact that pages like User:Laserpimp are automatically created by the system once a reviewer approves an account creation request. A sysop such as me has no influence whatsoever how the automatically created user page looks like without actively editing the information provided by the user itself on registration. So you should seriously consider keeping such a user whose main contribution are slander and lies altogether. Feel free to contact me by e-mail, you have my details, I will happily clear up for you what kind of person this user is. In fact he is an old acquaintance who was already banned from the Lexicanum for the same kind of behavior years ago but re-registered under a different name. --Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum (talk) 14:24, 16 January 2018 (MST)
Inquisitor_S is not being banned. Midnight Sun, calm it down. The only example you linked to was a system generated user page that is credited to whomever approves an account on the system. The text it contains is pulled from the user's application form. Everything else in your request is personal opinion. The solution to interpersonal issues on a Wiki is communication and consultation with other high activity users to find community norms and solutions - not asking for bannings right off the bat. Bannings are reserved for those who are vandalising, spamming, or otherwise overtly damaging the encyclopedia - backed up with concrete examples. Bigred (talk) 02:49, 17 January 2018 (MST)

Page Views

Hi, I was wondering if you could restore page views for individual pages. I found it a useful tool for gauging meta data on 40k. If you can't, no biggie. Harriticus (talk) 15:40, 28 August 2018 (MDT)

I'll check into it, but I belive pageviews tracking were depricated by mediawiki a few editions ago. When we did the update to the most recent version of mediawiki, everything based on pageviews stopped working. Mediawiki considered the way the system previously tracked pageviews to be extremely unreliable.

Space Marine pages overhaul

User:TheJohnnyKirk

Helloooo. So I want to do a massive tidy-up of the minor and stub Space Marines chapter pages, fitting them to a template. Would this be something I could maybe do, please? It bugs me.

Hi There, I have no issue with updating chapter pages and templates, but please coordinate with at least 1 of the other admins. The overall chapter template is ancient and could use updating and modernizing in layout - it in particular does not provide a good experience on mobile devices.

Bigred (talk) 15:43, 30 April 2019 (MDT)

Hiya, great! Whom should I coordinate with?

Cloudflare

In the weeks ahead, we will be updating Lexicanum and all of it's subdomain wikis to use Cloudflare security and hosting platform. I will alert everyone here when we are a day or so away. There may be some DNS transfer issues reaching the site for a few hours, then everything will be fine. It's fairly painless. This change will give Lexicanum substantial security protections, and page speed improvements, as well as paving the way for https. I will keep everyone informed as we get closer. Bigred (talk) 18:27, 15 April 2019 (MDT)

Noted. --Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum (talk) 22:20, 15 April 2019 (MDT)
Oh, it's great.--Darkelf77 (talk) 02:00, 16 April 2019 (MDT)
Cloudflare activation is scheduled for this holiday weekend. There may be some weirdness connecting while the DNS updates. Then everything should be faster. Bigred (talk) 11:31, 19 April 2019 (MDT)
All wikis are now on Cloudflare. It looks good for us here, so take a look around and let me know anyone sees anything broken. Loadtimes are 35% faster and improving, and we are now under Cloudflare's security umbrella. We will continue to tweak it over the weekend. Bigred (talk) 21:01, 19 April 2019 (MDT)
This is a test edit - post cloudflare. Bigred (talk) 22:39, 21 April 2019 (MDT)

There seems to be some sort of bug. I get blocked everytime I try to make an edit to Warhammer 40k - Lexicanum talk:Help.--Ashendant (talk) 09:04, 22 April 2019 (MDT)

Cloudflare Alert: Some admins are getting intermittent block message from CF when editing. We are working on isolating this and have made some changes already. Many times after a DNS, IP migration and HTTPS updates you see caching issues cause things like this for the first 24-48 hours until thing settle down. I suggest everyone, log out. Clear your browser cache, reboot your machine, then log back into Lex again with a new "clean connection". That will get rid of any legacy cache issues from the previous site's location. Email me directly for any issues and we will troubleshoot. Apologies, but these types of teething issues are common for the first few days. We will get it fixed. Desktop Color Lightening Project
