Mordrid Van Horcic is a Commissar-General in the Astra Militarum.[1]

Biography

Known as a fearful figure[2a], Van Horcic took part in the Invasion of Rynn's World, years after the war had become a bloody stalemate between the forces of Snagrod and the Imperium. During that time he successfully led the 15th Imperial Army in reclaiming the Hellblade Mountains, with the aid of a White Scars battle group led by Subodai, though it cost over a million lives to do so.[3] Some time later Van Horcic was mutilated by a melta blast while fighting Snagrod's Orks and was heavily augmented by bionics thereafter.[2a]

During the reclaiming of the Rynn's World from the Orks, Horcic was given the mission of defeating Big Mek Votzug Scrapkrumper. This was after it was discovered that the Big Mek had been creating some type of superweapon on the continent of Sorocco. Unfortunately, Scrapkrumper's workshop lay in the highlands of Sorocco's East Sariba, which was still the site of fierce Ork resistance. Despite the heavy cost in Imperial lives, Horcic's mission was a success and Scrapkrumper's workshop was destroyed. It was later discovered, though, that the Big Mek had managed to escape with his superweapon, which he completed soon afterwards. It was in fact a powerful beacon that allowed Scrapkrumper to contact the Arch-Arsonist Snagrod, who was told of the numerous Imperial forces attempting to reclaim Rynn's World. This led Snagrod to return and invade the world once more, but once again, the Imperium defeated the Arch-Arsonist's forces.[1]

Mordrid Van Horcic eventually took part in the Taros Campaign, where he acted as the right-hand man of Lord Commander Otto Ivan Gustavus, enforcing his will and maintaining order in the Imperial forces on Taros.[2a] Following the failure of Operation Comet, Van Horcic had Gustavus and most of his staff arrested for incompetence and took direct control of the war effort, organizing the withdrawal and evacuation of the planet.[2b]
