Varzival Czervantes[1], the Knight Resplendent, was the Chapter Magister of the Angels Resplendent, when the Undying Martyr arrived on their Homeworld[2] Malpertuis and turned them into the Angels Penitent.[2]
History
However the Chapter Magister was away campaigning, with the First Company, when this occurred and so was unable to prevent the Resplendent from coming under the Martyr's sway. Following that, the last anyone heard from Czervantes was shortly before the Chapter underwent the Great Purge, that led them to become the Angels Penitent. A decade after that event, Sergeant Montaig believed himself to be the only Angel who secretly refused to embrace the Martyr's teachings and still held on to the hope that the Chapter Magister will return. When he does, Montaig is convinced Czervantes will be able to redeem the Chapter and restore them back into the Angels Resplendent once more.[2]
Their former Chief Architect Athanazius, however, was convinced that Czervantes and the First Company still lived. He believed they garrisoned a world of fire and nightmares, which had left them ignorant of their Chapter’s fall.[1]
