A Warsphere is a Kroot space ship which serves as both a mobile town and a war vessel. They are the last vestige of the power and advancement of the Kroot prior to their move away from technology.[2] Each Warsphere resembles two ringed city-domes cut from a planet's surface and welded on either side of a massive spindle.[3]

Origins

The first Warspheres were created after the end of the first Kroot-Ork war, when an Ork asteroid fortress crashed on the Kroot homeworld of Pech. The Kroot were victorious. By eating the Ork's Meks, the Kroot were able to mimic the "technology" of building spaceships. The result was the Warspheres, which allowed the Kroot to go not only into space, but cross the warp. The Warspheres has been the race's primary void ships ever since.[4b]

Overview

Warspheres are effectively flying towns comprising a central section primarily housing the main warp engine and outer sections with maneuvering thrusters. While the engines are reliable, they are also of quite poor power output making Warspheres extremely slow, but are sufficiently powerful to enable planetary landings. Once on the surface the thrusters are often used to bury the Warsphere, presumably to enable it to revert to its role as a traditional town. Warspheres are fairly rare and so will only be deployed in situations where the Kroot are getting a substantial payment or bonus.[2]

Unlike the Tau, the Kroot have no difficulty using warp-drives to travel between stars. Their exact methods of doing so has been kept secret from their Tau employers. They appear to have a natural affinity for navigating towards inhabitable planets, almost like a sixth sense.[2]

The interior of Warspheres feature metal work and murals reminiscent of the Kroot's arboreal origins. Pipes and cables are shaped like metal vines and roots, and the air is warm and humid.[5]
