The Achaman Falcatas were an Imperial Guard Regiment from the planet Achaman. Their name comes from the long, curved combat blades which were standard issue for all Guardsmen and officers.

History

In or around 965.M41[1d], Subsector Paragonus was engulfed in a rebellion by traitor forces of the Chaos Warlord Crozus Regaur. An Imperial Crusade was raised to put down the rebellion, including the Falcatas.

After twenty years of bloody fighting, the Falcatas were converted into an army of conquest and given the Right of Settlement over the planet Salinas. Unfortunately, twenty years of fighting against the Ruinous Powers had transformed the Falcatas into merciless and fanatical killers, albeit first-class soldiers.

Despite the populace's pleas that they had always been loyal to the Emperor, the Falcatas believed that they had earned the right to conquer the planet. The planet's Governor, Shaara, was executed, and replaced by the Falcatas' commander, Colonel Leto Barbaden. A bloody civil war followed, between the Falcatas and an insurgent force, The Sons of Salinas. The war ended with the Khaturian Massacre, orchestrated by Barbaden.[1d]

The Falcatas were converted into the Salinas Planetary Defence Force, and Barbaden became the planet's new governor, replaced in command by Colonel Verena Kain. The Falcatas occupied the planet in the same manner as an army of conquest, resented and often attacked by the native people.

Most of the Falcatas were wiped out in an outbreak of Chaos on the planet, which possessed a number of mutants, known as the Unfleshed, who had been carried to Salinas by a Daemon Engine. Kain, her command staff, and most of the troopers were killed by the Unfleshed, spurred on by the spirits of the civilians killed in the massacre.

Barbaden was slain by the spirits of the dead, as was the regiment's Confessor, Shavo Togandis. The few surviving members of the regiment, including its former Commissar, Daron Nisato, reached an uneasy truce with the native population, and Nisato is currently serving as Governor.[1f]
