Adelard was a former Black Templars Marshal, who was interred within the Dreadnought Invictus Potens.[1]

History

Before he was interred within the Invictus Potens[1], Adelard served as a Castellan in the Dominar Crusade. While doing so, he successfully led four of the Crusade's Sword Brothers in purging the Genestealer Cult infestation aboard the Cathedral Ship Veritas Diras.[2] He also served as the second-in-command of the Madrigal Crusade, where Adelard also served as a mentor to the Initiate Brusc. The Initiate had been the last Neophyte Adelard had trained and he was there when Brusc failed in the ritual to become a Sword Brother.[3]

Adelard eventually achieved the rank of Marshal, and took part in the battles of Vellinus, the Cemetery Worlds, the misguided Passion of The False Saint Cleon and the hunting of the Ork Wyrd. However, he was later injured in battle by a Xenos plasma weapon and was interred within the Invictus Potens for 500 years. Adelard became a living relic, but many within the Chapter forgot his true name and knew him only as the Invictus Potens.[1]

Near the end of M41 he took part in the Third War for Armageddon, as part of the Ash Wastes Crusade. Adelard was then among the Crusade's forces that struck an Ork Rok, and charged into it besides his fellow Dreadnought Cantus Maxim Gloria. Once inside the Rok, they were swarmed by Orks and Adelard was mortally wounded after blocking a group of the Xenos from reaching Cantus. He would die soon afterwards, but the Rok was destroyed and the Invictus Potens would be recovered to fight once again.[1]
