Anuradha Daaz is a Helot (Chapter Serf) of the Mentor Legion who has since come into the service of the Emperor's Spears Chapter.

History

Anuradha Daaz was born to Mentors Serf Ishahan Daaz and an unnamed mother who died when she was still young. She lived with her father and brother Narakhir on an unknown Mentors-controlled world, and their lives were wrought with poverty. However when she was 11, their father contracted an illness and it fell to Anuradha and Narakhir to tend to him. One night Anuradha's father asked for water, but she instead allowed him to retrieve it. He was later found dead, and the incident haunted Anuradha profoundly.[1b] Later Narakhir was accepted into the Mentors as an Aspirant, but was killed during a barracks brawl with another recruits. Narakhir's killer was commended for the act, something which made Anuradha come to hate the Mentors.[1c]

Upon becoming a serf, Anuradha was assigned to the service of the Mentors Lieutenant Commander Amadeus Kaias Incarius. Sometime after the formation of the Great Rift, Anuradha along with fellow serfs Tyberia Volos and Kartash Avik accompanied Amadeus aboard the Sword Class Frigate In Devout Abjuration on a mission to rendezvouz with the Emperor's Spears and learn of their status following a century of no contact. However the journey into Imperium Nihilus was fraught with danger, and by the time they reached the Elara's Veil, the Sword Frigate was heavily damaged and thousands of its crew lay dead. Worse still, the ship's crew knew the Abjuration would not survive a return trip across the Rift and they were effectively trapped in the Veil. As the Abjuration limped its way to the Emperor's Spears Homeworld, Nemeton. Once they arrived at Nemeton, Incarius explained his mission to the Spears, but he was met with a less than warm welcome by Lord Brêac, of the Chapter's Third Warhost. In the end however the Mentors entourage were accepted to accompany the Spears aboard the Strike Cruiser Hex. Upon reaching Nemeton, Anuradha encountered a tribal witch who stated that she should not trust the promises of the broken man.[1a]

Soon afterwards, the Hex began to pursue the Exilarchy warship Venatrix Candidus, but was ambushed by it in return and then boarded by the Warband's forces. During the battle, Anuradha and Tyberia were narrowly able to kill an Exilarchy Chaos Space Marine but were badly exposed to the influences of the Warp when the ships Gellar Fields failed. During the mayhem, Anuradha saw a vision of her father begging her for water and was saved by Amadeus who ordered the duo to run. Though they nearly managed to escape, they were confronted by Kartash and observed his jade blade slay an Exilarchy Chaos Space Marine. Kartash then suddenly nearly killed the pair and left them within the vessel to be captured by the Exilarchy.[1b]

For the next several months, Anuradha and Tyberia lived a miserable and torturous existence as slaves of the Exilarchy. During this time, the two bonded as de facto sisters despite their previously tense history. Tyberia rose to become the leader of their slave group, something the Exilarchy noticed. In the end, she was taken by the Exilarchy's Mutants and horrifically mutilated, dying shortly after in Anuradha's arms.[1c] Afterwards, Anuradha was brought before the Exilarchy warlord Nar Kezar. The two traded barbs, until suddenly the Venatrix was rammed by the Celestial Lions warship Blade of the Seventh Son. Anuradha ultimately lost an eye, arm, and leg during her experiences against the Exilarchy but was rescued and rehabiliated. She re-encountered Kartash aboard the Hex, telling all who would listen about his betrayal but was not believed.[1c]

Later during a meeting aboard the Hex with Celestial Lions Chapter Master Ekene Dubaku Daaz watched as the Space Marine Lord was suddenly assassinated by Kartash, who revealed himself as a Callidus Assassin. Amadeus and Daaz were both suspected as culpable in Dubaku's death and were subsequently imprisoned, but during the hunt for the assassin were let free by Emperor's Spear Druid Ducarius who mentally scanned both their minds and believed their innocence. Anuradha rushed back to her quarters, where she encountered the badly wounded Callidus Assassin. The assassin promised Anuradha that if she helped her escape, she would be freed from the Mentors and given a life of luxury and wealth. Remembering the witch's words to not trust the promises of the broken man, Anuradha detonated a Vortex Grenade and slew the assassin, with herself narrowly surviving. Afterwards Anuradha continued her service to Amadeus within the Spears, effectively trapped within the Dark Imperium.[1d]

Ultimately, Anuradha served Amadeus and the Spears into her elderly years.[1e]
