Aurus is a Captain in the Ultramarines Chapter.[1]

History

Earlier in his career, he led one of his Chapter's strike forces to the Imperial colony of Persiphon, which was being tormented by Drukhari raiders. The cruel Xenos lingered long enough for the Ultramarines to arrive and Aurus led the strike force to victory over the Drukhari. While the people of Persiphon were left feeling ashamed for not being able to defend themselves, as the God-Emperor demanded, they also felt a bone-deep veneration for the Ultramarines for saving them. This adulation soon became a desire to echo the Chapter's strength and a vow that Persiphon would never need to be rescued again. This led the world's six great clans to established Halls of Excellence, wherein aspirants would train to become the best warriors that unaugmented Humans could be. A spirit of healthy competition and deserved pride in their achievements saw the Halls turn out highly trained, physically conditioned and well-equipped warriors for the next two generations. These Guardsmen marched out armored in blue and gold in honor of the Ultramarines. However the need for their own warriors to achieve perfection, eventually led to a civil war between the Halls in M42.[1]

Astropathic messages from the world would be sent out declaring the outbreak of the war and that unidentified Xenos monsters had also begun tormenting Persiphon's population and as fate would have it, Aurus would once again lead a strike force to come to its aid. Before the Captain reached the world, though, he would be met by Inquisitor Rudran Luc, who had heard the messages as well. Luc, however, had sought to investigate Persiphon beforehand, when whispers circulated about a deviant religion growing within the Halls of Excellence. The civil war prevented the Inquisitor from even beginning his investigations, but Luc suspected something more insidious was at work. When he learned that Captain Aurus was going to stop the war, the Inquisitor had rushed to meet him before the Ultramarines arrived at Persiphon. The two would then reach the world and the Inquisitor's worst fears were realized, as they saw that Persiphon was being invaded by the Daemons of Slaanesh. Their interrogation of remote data-augurs revealed how the competition between the Halls of Excellence, to train the best Guardsmen, turned sour and plunged Perisiphon into a shockingly savage civil war. The need to achieve victory, later led each of the Halls' war clerics to appeal to dark powers and caused the Daemons to invade Persiphon.[1]

Chief among them were six Keepers of Secrets, who each ruled a realm from a corrupted Hall of Excellence. Seeing such Heresy led the Ultramarines to launch an attack and on Aurus' orders, his forces separated so they could strike at different parts of Persiphon. Aurus invaded the Goahv Province and his target was the greatest of the Halls of Excellence, but upon entering it the Captain's forces found themselves scattered amidst a maze of distorted mirrors. As they ventured forth, whispered temptations drowned out the Ultramarines' voxes, and soporific incense seeped into their sealed power armour. All the while, Daemon of Slaanesh burst from the mirrors' every twisted reflection to attack the Space Marines. Meanwhile Inquisitor Luc had stayed in orbit and listened with growing dismay as Persiphon's debauched insanity converged on the outnumbered Ultramarines. He also watched the weave of the Warp thinning on the world and realized a huge Daemonic incursion threatened to appear on Persiphon. In response to this, Luc had his Astropaths immediately send an encoded summons to the Grey Knights, as the Chapter's strength would now be needed to defeat the Daemons.[1]
