Bale Rane was an Imperial Army trooper, who served in Calth's Numinus 61st Regiment, during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy.[1]

Biography

He was a teenager, when his Regiment was preparing to take part in the Ghaslakh Crusade, which would force Bale to leave his new wife, Neve, behind.[1][2a] However before the Crusade launched from Calth, the Word Bearers attacked the world as the Horus Heresy began. As the invasion raged, Bale soon joined a small group of Imperials who escaped with the Perpetual Ollanius Persson into a Warp Rift he created. This began a journey through time and space, as Persson tried to reach Terra before the traitorous Warmaster Horus could kill the Emperor. Even as the group was then faced with countless dangers, however[2a], Bale's thoughts always dwelt on his wife, whom he had been unable to rescue before the group escaped from Calth.[2b]

When the group arrived on Terra, they found themselves in a horrific dream-garden of the Emperor's Children known as Paradise. Within the realm, Rane saw visions of his wife beckoning to him and was overcome by a desire to be reunited with her. However this was a trap, and Rane was killed by Daemons.[2c]
