The Battle of Khaine's Gate is an important event in Dark Eldar history, beginning around the same time as the Thirteenth Black Crusade.[1]

History

For years, Khaine's Gate in Commorragh had shown signs of instability. However, the possession of Yvraine by the Eldar god Ynnead proved to be the final straw. Psychic energy bled across the Dark City, leading to a hyper-spatial quake that saw millions die. During the instability, Khaine's Gate was torn upon and Daemons swarmed across Commorragh. Despite desperate attempts from the city's nobles to stem the tide of Daemons, Asdrubael Vect was mysteriously absent and only appeared when the Dark Eldar were at their breaking point after months of fighting. He quickly organised a massive counterattack, calling upon the Incubi and paying in every debt of old in order to mobilize a formidable army.[1]

With his new army, Vect's attack was able to corral the Daemons into the sub-realm containing the gaping hole that was Khaine's Gate before being severed from the rest of Commorragh, becoming known as the Chasm of Woe. However the Daemons kept coming, rising from the massive abscesses created within the city. This forced Vect to plunge more districts of the city into sub-dimensions, taking entire armies and masses of slaves with them.[1] As of early M42, the forces of Commorragh are still battling the daemonic hordes which keeping gradually seizing more and more territory. In their desperation, the Dark Eldar have begun the Black Throne project to save Commorragh.[2]
