The Battle of Brax is a famous battle of the Imperial Fists Chapter, that occurred sometime after the formation of the Great Rift.[1]

The war began when the Alpha Legion instigated an uprising on the Fortress World of Brax. While internecine warfare raged, the Alpha Legion itself focused on the seizure of Brax's air defence arrays. Unaware of the trap, Lord General Praecillus ordered a full-scale assault on the planet as soon as his fleet arrived in orbit. In the slaughter that followed, Praecillus lost a Titan Legion, six Imperial Guard Regiments, and large amounts of auxilliary assets without even claiming any of Brax's bunker complexes.[1]

By the time the 4th Company of the Imperial Fists arrived from the Mangora warzone, Praecillus had already requested authority to enact Exterminatus. Imperial Fists Captain Lydoro considered such acts near-heresy and sought to reclaim Brax himself. After a punishing orbital strike on the northern continent's anti-aircraft complex, Brax Ultima, Lydoro launched a Drop Pod assault of demi-company (50 Battle Brothers) strength. Outnumbered a dozen times over, the Imperial Fists suffered horrendous casualties and Lydoro himself lost both an arm and an eye. But thanks to the 4th's determination, the Alpha Legion were driven back into Brax Ultima's defence lines, long enough for Lydoro to seize control of the complexes and unleash his true assault. Lydoro then launched an attack with every uncommitted Centurion Warsuit and suit of Gravis Armour in the Company Armoury and every Land Raider the Chapter could spare. This assault crushed the Alpha Leigon counterattack before Lydoro's position could be overrun, and thereafter ground its way through the trench lines towards neighbouring Brax Proxima. By the time Brax Resplenda fell three days later, elements of the stymied relief army defied the callow Praecillus and threw their support behind the 4th. Only then with the big guns of the Guard behind them, did Lydoro allow himself to be cared for by Apothecaries.[1]

The conquest reshaped the 4th Company's identity, taking on the new title of the Victors of Brax.[1]
