Biff Tundrish was a member of the Imperial Fists, who was recruited from Necromunda, alongside Lexandro d'Arquebus and Yeremi Valence.[1b]

History

They were all born in Hive Trazior, but each came from different social backgrounds, and were enemies when they first met[1a]. Tundrish had been born into Trazior's Undercity and lived with his parents until a disease killed them both. He later joined a Scum gang called the Spidergobs and had a tattoo of a giant spider put across his face. Though he was the youngest member of the gang, Tundrish knew he would one day become its leader. This was because, unlike his fellow gang members, had deep thoughts that went beyond immediate gratification. He had patience and was able to plan ahead, which made him stand out from the other Spidergobs. Until his time came to gain control of the gang, though, he followed its leader's commands[1b]. This led Tundrish to take part in a raid on one of the hive levels, that was just above the Undercity. There the Spidergobs attacked a technician gang from the Valance clan, but as they fought, the Lordly Phantasms Brat Gang ambushed them. The Phantasms sought to capture members of the lower status gangs, in order to throw them into Hive Trazior's massive heat-sink. As the three gangs fought, Tundrish ambushed the Phantasm Lexandro d'Arquebus in return. However as d'Arquebus was thrown to the ground, they were confronted by the technician Yeremi Valence, who demanded to know why the Phantasms were attacking his gang. He was enraged by this, as the technicians served the upper hive and acted as bulwark against the Undercity and yet the Brat Gang still treated them as playthings. d'Arquebus stated that if this bothered Valence, then he strive to become a member of the Upper Hive, and then fired upon both Tundrish and Valence as he rejoined the Phantasms. By then, the Brat gang had succeeded in capturing a member of each of the lower status gangs[1a], one of which was Tundrish's fellow Spidergob Crackpot[1b], and they then fled towards the Hive's heat-sink. Valence and Tundrish's gangs pursued them in order to rescue their captured members, but they were too late. The gangs could only look on as the Lordly Phantasms threw the captured gang members to their deaths, before they fled back to the upper hive.[1a]

Sometime later, Trazior's Planetary Defense Force suffered heavy losses, after anarchy had erupted within the Hive. This had occurred following a trade war with the nearby Hive Titania and in order to restore their strength, the PDF's commander began forcibly recruiting from the Hive's Tech and Merchant gangs. Tundrish learned of this from a technician they had captured and who had then warned that his cousins had joined. The technician warned that his cousins would then seek revenge if the Spidergobs harmed him, but the gang had their fun and killed him anyways. Afterwards, though, Tundrish fell int one of his deep thoughts and wondered if he should join the PDF. Life in the Undercity was short and painful, and there was no guarantee he would live long enough to become the Spidergobs' leader. Tundrish was then struck by what Lexandro d'Arquebus had told Yeremi Valence as their gangs fought: if he was bothered by his station in life, then he should strive to become a member of the Upper Hive. In his mind, Tundrish would be striving upwards, if he became a member of the PDF and quickly left his gang behind. He would make a perilous journey to reach a recruiting station in the hive's upper levels, which were far from the Undercity. Despite this being Tundrish' first time traveling so far from his home, he made in time. To his surprise, though, both d'Arquebus and Valence were there as well. While the Phantasm member had taken part in his friend's death, Tundrish did not attack d'Arquebus. Instead he sat and had deep thoughts, which Tundrish knew his fellow Spidergobs could never do with an enemy being nearby to them. When he was later being interviewed about joining the PDF, though, the Imperial Fists Sergeant Huzzi Rork suddenly appeared and interrupted the procedure. The Sergeant was using the PDF recruit drive, to seek Aspirants for his Chapter and had been secretly watching Tundrish's interview. Rork had decided to select the gang member to undergo the Aspirant testing and, after being medically scanned and questioned by the Sergeant, Tundrish succeeded in passing the trials. To his surprise, both d'Arquebus and Valence had passed as well. Afterwards, they and the other chosen Necromunda Aspirants, were taken to the Phalanx to begin their training to become Space Marines.[1b]
