To their surprise, they recognise his name – he fought alongside the Blood Angels four thousand years ago. Can he still be trusted after four millennia in the Eye of Terror, or is he as much of a threat as the servants of Chaos that they fight?

Plot

The four Blood Angels headed to daemon world of Eidolon as they suspect the Blade Encarmine in the possession of a Demon on this world. On their way they find the Demonprison of Mul. On the walls they find the banner of an of an Imperial Guard regiment that once fought bravely at the side of the Blood Angels. The Chapter and the regiment swore an oath to ever fight for each other. The Blood Angels seek to free any surviving prisoners. After they dispose of a gatekeeper in service of Khorne, his slave demon -now free- grants them entry. The prison is a nightmare in which the demon wardens pit the prisonners against each other to fight to the death. The Blood Angels find two hundred guardsmen of the regiment, their command intact, fighting for survival. The demon wardens -huge centaurs- try to provoke the prisoners into their reach, the Blood Angels resist any taunt, until the demon wardens curses the name of Sanguinius. Brother Cloten is overcome with rage and a vast battle erupts, after the demons are forced back, the master of the fortress a huge, six armed demon named Lord Hexis intervenes, cutting down any guardsman in his way. Leonatos and Lord Hexis duel, the Blood Angels using his knowledge of the servants of Khorne against the demon. The Demon is slayed his forces scattered.

The force leaves the prison heading for the only oasis in the desert around it. Scout Novice Lysander notices that Leonatos is wounded, a shard of the sword of Lord Hexis still in his back. Leonatos wants to keep quiet about it to keep the morale of the guardsman up. On the Oasis they find water and eatable lizard-insect interbreeds. After the Leonatos gives the guardsmen a free choice, they plan to fortify the oasis, however they fear the nearby caves. The Blood Angel pledge to clear the caves, but they are a demon trap of demons called Sirens. They try to break the mind of the Space Marines but only manage to render them unconscious. The Space Marines awake in the oasis - bound by the guardsmen: They are traitors, their regiment swore an oath of revenge when 11.000 of their finest had to die because their honour could not allow to retreat as long as the Blood Angels stood their gropund and fought. For not releasing the regiment and retreating the regiment swore to destroy the Blood Angels. When the sirens offered them a plot they agreed to be captured into the eye of terror to Eidolon and the prison just to kill Leonatos and his companions. While Leonatos delays the execution he can pull the shard from his back freeing himself and his brothers. All guardsman are slain, including the scribe that tells the story. It is revealed that his spirit is trapped to inscribe the story into the stones of the desert.

Some of the stones (millennia old) are found by the Cult Mechanicus on a Space Hulk, some years after Leonatos left the chapter. They are handed to the Blood Angels, only Dante and Mephiston read them and lock them away until the story is proven right or wrong.
