Breakback Hill (also known as the Disaster at Breakback Hill), was the site of a disastrous battle between the Catachan 2nd Jungle Fighters Regiment of the Imperial Guard and a Chaos warband. In this battle Colonel Greiss was wounded but carried off the battlefield by Nork Deddog.[1]

History

Breakback Hill (Imperial archive file: Hill-Gamma Zero) was located upon Balor in the Charadon Sector. Not much is known about this battle due to the high casualties count, but the combatants were the 2nd Catachan and several Chaos Renegades. The brute-but-intelligent Ogryn Nork Deddog notably carried the frail and half-dead Colonel Greiss to safety, after an explosion set off by the Renegades hit the ground right next to the Colonel's command post.

Although the Renegades were poorly armed, outnumbered, and most likely demoralized due to the lack of a command structure and a shortage of supplies, they had the advantage of holding a strategic area. The battle swung in their favour when a large number of Khorne Berserkers allied with them, stormed out of nowhere and down the hill, slaughtering most of the unexpecting guardsmen.

It was a great loss to the Imperial Guard, and although Nork Deddog received yet another medal for saving the Colonel's life, little is known as to why the hill was of such value to the forces of Chaos.
