Callie
Callie was a Vervunhiver of the planet Verghast around the time of the Siege of Vervunhive, part of the Sabbat Worlds Crusade.[1]
Biography
Prior to the siege, Callie was a loom-girl who lived in the outer habs. When Vervunhive was invaded by the hordes of Ferrozoica, Callie survived the Zoican artillery shelling the hive prior to their main assault and was one of a number of civilians who were found by a unit of the Vervun Primary led by Captain Olin Fencer.[1]
Fencer's unit was stationed outside the hive's main walls. Despite being exposed to the Zoican artillery, Fencer ordered his men, in accordance with standard Vervun emergency protocol, to erect defences in preparation for the Zoicans' coming infantry assault. As part of this, Callie and the other able-bodied civilians were conscripted to bolster the defences. Callie proved a natural with a stubber and so was assigned to crew one of the weapons emplacements with Corporal Gannen.[1]
Sure enough, when the bombardment ceased, the Zoicans led an infantry advance through the area that Fencer's troops were stationed in. Together, Callie and Gannen held the western end of the line for a time until Gannen was killed by shrapnel from a rocket. Callie kept firing but she was also killed by a tank shell.[1]
