Cassia is an Ogryn Psyker who serves in the retinue of the Ordo Xenos Lord Inquisitor, Falx.[1a]

History

While the Imperial Cult states that Ogryn are too dim-witted to become Psykers, Cassia has defied this. Born in a work camp, under the name of Indentured Conscript C455-I, she was later drafted into a Penal Regiment in M42 and sent to the nearest Imperial war front. This led C455-I to Karkhemish Secundus, where her Regiment aided in the Imperium's campaign against the Delq. However the Xenos species eventually forced the Imperials to retreat from the world. As C455-I's Regiment was retreating, though, her unit's Commissar was attacked by the Delq's mortar fire. It was then that her psychic abilities awoke within her and the Ogryn used her mind to move a downed bomber to shield the Commissar. While she saved the Commissar's life, the Imperial Cult was clear that Ogryn's could not be Psykers. The Commissar's duty was clear in such matters: align reality with the Imperial Cult immediately. And that would have occured, had the Commissar not owed a favor to Lord Inquisitor, Falx. After reporting the matter to the Inquisitor, C455-I was soon recruited by Falx into her retinue and the Commissar informed the Departmento Munitorum, that C455-I had been executed for cowardice. With that, C455-I's old life was officially over- and Cassia began her new life serving Falx aboard the Severissimus Exactor‎.[1a]

It was under the Lord Inquisitor's service, that she chose the name Cassia and also met the Space Wolves Rune Priest Orm Hendriksen. He also served Falx and acted as a mentor to Cassia, as the Ogryn began training her as a Psyker. He was dedicated to ensuring Cassia made the best of her new abilities and that shedid not fall to Heresy because of them. Though the two constantly sniped at each other, the Lord Inquisitor knew that any real enmity between them, was now buried under mutually developed respect[1a]. Cassia also developed an increased intellect and with Falx's permission, she began studying old Ordo Biologos texts from the Lord Inquisitor's personal library. Over the course of two years of repeated studying, the Ogryn eventually taught herself how to read and write in fine calligraphy. Cassia then began keeping a journal of her thoughts and which surprised Falx, when the Lord Inquisitor learned of it. The Imperial Cult had stated that Ogryns were not capable of doing so, but just like her psychic abilities, Cassia proved it to be wrong[1b]. Though Falx suspected the Great Rift was the cause of Cassia becoming a Psyker[1a] and developing an increased intellect[1b], the Inquisitor nonetheless viewed the Ogryn as a trusted member of her retinue.[1a]
