Argento Corian, now known as The Enlightener[5a], was the Chaos Lord of the Shriven[4]. He was formerly Chapter Master of the Brazen Drakes which was declared Hereticus Diabolus Extremis during the Psychic Awakening.[2]

History

Their downfall began sometime after Corian succeeded[1] Kaslyn[2] and the Great Rift's creation caused the Chapter to be stricken with the emergence of psychic powers within its ranks. Corian knew that the High Lords would label the Brazen Drakes as Heretics should they learn of this, and so the Chapter Master began personally killing each stricken Battle Brother. This was done in a ceremony, aboard one of their warships, where his inner circle of Captains and Lieutenants watched Corian conduct the execution with his Lightning Claw. These increasingly rampant killings, took a mental toll on Corian, though, who began to be worn down by a melancholy that only battle could temporarily rid him of. He refused to share this burden with anyone else, but Corian's breaking point came when the Battle Brother Kier, of Captain Cathal's Company, suddenly used psychic powers during a battle. When the time came to execute Kier for this, however, Corian refused to do so and told his inner circle that they had bled enough for the Imperium. If they were to be condemned for the emergence of psychic powers, which he had no doubt would afflicted all of them, then Corian was determined that the Chapter would fight only for itself from now on. And those of their Chapter who refused to turn their back on the Imperium, would have to be enlightened.[3]

This led to a civil war within the Chapter, and their Homeworld, Khassedur, became a warzone between Corian's loyalists and those who refused to follow his commands. A Torchbearers strike force, led by the Adeptus Custodes Shield-Captain Tyvar, later arrived at Khassedur in order to supply the Brazen Drakes with the gift of Primaris Space Marines. When they discovered the Chapter's traitorous actions, however, Tyvar declared the Brazen Drakes to be Hereticus Diabolus Extremis and he vowed to destroy the former Chapter[2]. Sometime later, Corian led the Brazen Drakes to Dessah, but he is unaware that the Imperium has now sent Execution Force Retaliation to kill him.[1]

Corian survived the attack, however, and the Brazen Drakes would go on to join the Black Legion and become known as the Shriven. He then allied themselves with Fabius Bile, who has used his foul alchemy to enhance the Warband. As the War of the Spider began, the Shriven defended Bile in the Cadian System from his enemies, while Corian also sought to carve out his own empire from within the ravaged System.[4] Corian was enhanced to wield great psychic power but had unknowingly become Bile's slave. During the war, Corian was killed by a Vindicare Assassin on Bairsten Prime but was rebuilt by Bile into a horrific golem which lacked even basic free will. In the final battle of the war on Dessah, Corian was assailed by an Execution Force of the Officio Assassinorum. The Golem-Corian managed to slay 2 of the 4 assassins sent against him, but was slain when the corpse of an Eversor Assassin detonated.[5b]
