A native of Phantine, Absolom served in one of the planet's PDF regiments (specifically the Ninth Phantine Recon) for nine years. He left the service after sustaining an injury during the Ambross Uprising.[1b] Afterwards he found employment as a night watchman at one of the planet's vapour-mills. He worked in this capacity for seventeen years before retiring around 768.M41.[1b][Note 1] During his retirement, Absolom lived in the city of Cirenholm. He was a neighbour of Onti Flyte.[1a][1b]

Later, Phantine was invaded and occupied by a division of the Blood Pact. When they subjugated Cirenholm, they rounded up most of the civilians (including Absolom) and imprisoned them in the city's tertiary dome. In early 771.M41 an Imperial Guard taskforce led by Lord General Van Voytz arrived to liberate Phantine. The taskforce stormed and retook Cirenholm, freeing the Blood Pact's captives and returning them to their homes.[1a][1b]

Shortly after returning home, Ma'am Flyte was murdered by a psychopathic Imperial Guardsman.[1a][1d] Another Guardsman, Trooper Dermon Caffran of the Tanith First was mistakenly accused of the crime by Onti's eldest son and put on trial for the murder.[1b] However, at the last minute, the regiment's Commissar, Viktor Hark, was able to find Mr Absolom and convince him to testify on Caffran's behalf[1b] (although it would later transpire that Absolom had not, in fact, witnessed anything conclusive and was merely willing to help Hark and Caffran out of duty to fellow military men, Hark having convinced him of Caffran's innocence).[1c] With the aid of Absolom's testimony, Caffran was acquitted.[1b]
