Daric Ashmoune was an elite Warden of the Emperor's Children's Phoenix Guard, during the Horus Heresy.[1]

History

He was among the Traitor Legion's forces that defended the Perfect Fortress, when the Raven Guard and their allies the Therion Cohort, invaded during the Horus Heresy. As the battle began, Ashmoune and his Phoenix Guard were stationed in Hab-block Delta-19, which contained a control room for an array of Flak Batteries, scattered across the Fortress. These weapons had remained hidden, even after the Therion Cohort began their attack on the Fortress, but they were later detected by the Raven Guard's Scout Cruiser Fane of Shadow. This was just before the Raven Guard were set to join the attack and when the Batteries activated they would wreak havoc on the unsuspecting Legion. With their Primarch, Corax, having ordered them to maintain Vox-silence before they attacked, no one on the Fane could warn him about this new threat.[1]

Acting quickly, the Centurion Beyar Kedron, who was aboard the [Fane of Shadow]], led his detachment of Deliverers in invading Hab-block Delta-19. To succeeded though, he needed to split his forces into groups, while Kedron led his Command Squad to the tower that held the Flak Batteries' control room. Ashmoune and his cadre of Phoenix Guard were lying in wait, however, and charged at the Deliverers. The Traitors outnumbered the Raven Guard and would have defeated the Loyalists had they met the Phoenix Guard's attack. Instead, though, Kedron ordered his Command Squad to retreat into the tunnels leading into the control room. The Centurion then had the Deliverers split into pairs or trios as they hid within the tunnels' darkness, hoping their retreat would draw the Phoenix Guard to them. Kedron's plan worked, as Ashmoune's pride would not allow him to hold his ground, at such a sign of disrespect. The Phoenix Guard soon charged after the Deliverers, who used the darkness and the tower's fortifications against them. The Traitors were all killed in the brutal battle that followed and soon only Ashmoune remained alive. The Phoenix Warden, who had been left untouched by the Deliverers, still felt he could turn the tide of the battle by killing Kedron and repeatedly challenged the Centurion to a duel. However Kedron had little intention of doing so and had surviving Command Squad tear the Traitor apart. After Ashmoune's death, Kedron had the Flak Batteries' control room destroyed, rendering them inert, and the Raven Guard went on to defeat the Emperor's Children and sack the Perfect Fortress.[1]
