The Deathwind Orbital Strike Force is a Space Marine unit composed of automated Deathwind drop pods.

Overview

Drop pods have been used by the Adeptus Astartes since the time of the Horus Heresy, allowing Space Marines to be deployed onto the battlefield quickly and without warning from their orbiting vessels. Although this is their most frequent use, drop pods are flexible machines that can also be reconfigured into boarding torpedoes to assault enemy ships, or fitted with stealth fields to land behind enemy lines undetected.

A Deathwind Orbital Strike Force consists of drop pods refitted with Deathwind missile launchers, replacing the troops that would normally be carried inside the pod with the launchers, extra ammunition, and more powerful sensors to direct the weaponry. These pods are then launched in a coordinated pattern, aimed into the heart of the enemy's army. As they crash onto their landing zone, the pods' doors open and their weapons blanket the surrounding land with a barrage of fire.

A typical Deathwind Orbital Strike Force formation consisted of three Deathwind pods, and a single pod equipped with a Locator Beacon.[1]
