Eye of Terror is a Warhammer 40,000 novel by Barrington J. Bayley. It was published in 1999.[1]

Cover Description

As the war-fleets of the Imperium prepare to launch themselves on a crusade into the very heart of Chaos, the scurrilous Rogue Trader Maynard Rugolo seeks power and riches on the fringe worlds of that most terrifyingly insane realm – the Eye of Terror![1]

Summary

The novel follows the endeavours of Rogue Trader Maynard Rugolo who seeks power and riches on the fringe worlds of the Eye of Terror. A sub plot is developed between two Space Marines; one a devoted follower of Khorne, and the other an ancient warrior from the time of the Great crusade, with the later gradually being corrupted by the malign influence of Chaos until eventually he must make the choice between scorning his Emperor or throwing his lot in with the Dark gods. Rugolo travels deep into the Eye of Terror in search of his fortune, encountering enigmatic pirates, xenos, and demons along the way, each of whom would like nothing better to get one over the young Rogue Trader to further their own goals. The novel explores the more malign influences of Chaos and shows that even the greatest heroes of humanity can fall from graces, whilst providing hope of redemption, despite the methods in which it is extracted.[1]
