Devastation

Situation far below the galactic plane and dwelling amongst an asteroid field, the denizens of Gaban hoped that they would escape notice by the Imperium's many enemies and even maintained a state of quasi radio-silence to ensure this. However these measures could not protect them ultimately, and in a series of incidents the watch stations on the Carella Minor system's furthest reaches were knocked out of commission by radiation pulses. Five cycles later a freighter emerged from the Warp with a desperate message for aid, but was ignored by the Magi of Gaban. Three cycles later, Skitarii on Gaban began acting strangely, marching out into the desert saying they were following divine imperative. The strange incidents did not arose serious suspicion however.[1]

In truth, these events were orchestrated by the Dark Eldar Archon Vradzek of the Kabal of the Twisted Mantle. Vradzek had probed the forge-moon's responses and now unleashed his forces, many of which had been contracted and bribes from other factions in Commorragh. When all was ready, the Dark Eldar emerged through a Webway Portal in Gaban's upper atmosphere, bypassing the forge moon's orbital defenses. The Dark Eldar spread confusion by releasing false reports of attacks throughout the system, diverting the Mechanicum defense vessels. Meanwhile the spider-limbed geothermic spindlerigs on Gaban's salt wastes were recalled to protect the planets power generators. Swarms of Kabal grav transports and flocks of Scourges fell upon them, while beneath Gaban's temple forges contingency power plants fell to Mandrakes. On the outskirts of Gaban's primary gene-vault, Wyches of the Cult of the Razored Eye defeated a force of Serberys Sulphurhounds as the Trueborn of the Twisted Mantle and Incubi from the Shrine of the Bloody Tears forced their way into the gene-vaults outer sanctum. The remaining Skitarii proved easy prey for these forces.[1]

It was then that Vradzek himself emerged from a Webway Portal and drove his forces deeper into the sanctum alongside the Haemonculi and Wracks of the Grimgeist Coven. Within two hours, Vradzek had the entire forge moon in his grasp. No help ever came, and the Imperium later reported that the Xenos had remained on Gaban for three days after it fell, taking their time taking and tormenting thousands of captives while draining the gene-vaults of every specimen. The only corpses of the Adeptus Mechanicus that was recovered were unfeeling Servitors and the jelly-like cranial residue of the ruler's brains.[1]
