Handbow
Handbow is a pistol weapon, that due to its construction is only useable at range. Resembling a smaller, one-handed crossbow, it's nonetheless a tool depending on high tech, requiring advanced fibre tension arms and servo-assisted mechanisms – using lesser materials invariably ends with accumulated tension breaking the weapon. Each shot requires a re-tensioning, which makes it quite a slow armament.[4] As well as bows as crossbows, they are mainly used on primitive worlds, but can be found all over the galaxy in more advanced forms. The ease at which they can be broken down and concealed, as well as their silent operation, makes them a favoured weapon of assassins. The Ratskin tribes of Necromunda are particularly renowned for making use of handbows and other low-tech weapons.[1]
Variants
Flick Bow
A Flick Bow is a compact version of the hand bow, constructed so that its span folds inwards for easy concealment. Flick bows can be hidden in a boot, muffler or sleeve for use in unexpected and unpleasant situations, though before firing, the wielder must quickly “lock” the bow back into firing position. It is a popular sidearm for coachmen, prostitutes and criminal gangs on many Feudal Worlds, although the finest examples are made by the artisans of Balecaster.[3]
