Herald of Misery is an Ark of Omen. It takes the shape of a gigantic blunt-nosed arrowhead.[1]

History

After accepting an alliance with Abaddon the Despoiler, Iron Warriors Warsmith Czagra departed with dozens of warships for the Vorlishk Sub-Sector in preparation for the Arks of Omen Campaign. Alongside his own Effacers of Medrengard and Riven Reforged forces, Czagra also allied with the Ferrocratic Creed, Barbican Lords, Legio Krytos, and Legio Rorgahl. When they arrived at the Arks of Omen construction yard, Czagra's fleet boarded the hulks of what would become the Herald of Misery. The Iron Warriors next battled to secure the Ark fragments, clear it of hostiles, and oversee the final stages of its construction. However, their efforts were hampered by Ork Lootas under Deathskulls Warboss Grymzag. It took weeks of gruelling purges before the Iron Warriors had cleared the hulks of the Greenskins.[1]

The Herald of Misery next moved onto the Lume System, descending onto the region suddenly thanks to the skill of its Daemonic Ferryman. The Iron Warriors and their allies initially overran much of the Shrine World of Lume IV, but the intervention of the Blood Angels Frigate Star of Dawn under Librarian Rhalion boarded the Ark of Omen itself.[2] After sending forces to face these foes, the Herald of Misery next moved on to invade the Mechanicum world of Lume IV to seek a new Key-Fragment as the Warmaster himself sought to defend the Arks Warp Portal against the loyalist invaders.[3]

In the subsequent battle against Rhalion and his Bladeguard Veterans aboard the Herald of Misery, the Warsmith discovered that the loyalist Space Marines were enacting a ritual to determine where the Ark's warp portal led. As Rhalion died against Czagra, he learned that the portal led to the Somnium Stars and sent out the location to any in the Imperium who could make use of it.[4] After this Czagra faced yet another threat when the Orks under Grymzag again grew to the numbers to threaten his rule of the Herald of Misery. The Warsmith was forced to launch another campaign to scatter the Xenos.[5]
