Herdain was a Chaplain of the Avenging Sons Chapter, attached to the Third Company.[1]

History

Herdain was assigned to the Third Company during its penance patrol after the Company's actions on Archimedon. He participated in the Company's attempt to help put down an anti-Imperial civil war on Helmabad.[1]

Despite predictions that the insurrection was small and would be easily defeated, by the time the Avenging Sons arrived at Helmabad to assist the local Imperial authorities the civil war had been raging for eight years and the rebels had control over most of the planet. Over the next forty days, the Third Company was reduced to less than a third of its original strength. With supplies running low and reinforcement impossible due a warp shadow that had descended over the Helmabad system, the Space Marines' already grim prospects were made worse when the Company's Librarian, Zacherys, sensed that the rebels were preparing to open a warp rift. The Company's commanding officer, Captain Gessart, wanted to abandon Helmabad to its fate but Herdain protested - the Chaplain instead wanted the Marines to atone for their past transgressions and regain their honour by sacrificing themselves to a noble cause. Gessart, however, had no wish to die for the sake of the corrupt local government of a backwater Imperial world. He shot Herdain through the head and went renegade, leaving Helmabad with his loyal followers and turning his back on the Imperium.[1]

Wargear

Herdain's personal wargear included a plasma pistol.[1]
