Holzhauer was a Elnaur Chasseurs Lord-Marshal, who turned upon the Imperium and declared himself the Arch-Duke of the Malouri Uprising.[1b]

History

This occurred on Malouri after news of Cadia's destruction, during the 13th Black Crusade, began to spread despite the Imperium's efforts to stop it. Eris Bellona, who was a Priest to one Holzhauer's Elnaur Chasseurs Regiments, learned of this and became despondent. He believed the Imperium was now close to being destroyed, but he later wrote[1a] a thesis on how to save it. The key factor of this, was to return the Imperium to the age when Goge Vandire ruled over Mankind. For this to happen, though, a cleansing purge would have to take place. Though a fellow Ecclesiarchy Adept declared them to be Heresy, the words did not seem so to Holzhauer. Instead they expressed truths that he had never seen written before. Holzhauer was particularly drawn to the thesis' call for a military leader for the purging Crusade, that would save the Imperium. The Lord-Marshal's arrogance and ambition made him believe he was that leader. In Holzhauer's mind, divine providence had brought this opportunity to him and he had to act. He informed Bellona that he would lead the Crusade[1b] and the Lord Marshal soon gathered others to Bellona's cause. And this began the Malouri Uprising.[1c]
