Overview
The Knight House is said to be comprised of scholar-warriors.[3] Its scions were required to prove themselves in both martial ability and philosophy and academia before ascending to the Throne Mechanicum. This devotion to scholarly pursuits saw them rule over a world which had long known peace. However Houses of a more violent disposition saw their pursuits as a sign of weakness but this was disproved by their performance in battle during the Great Crusade. Their Scions bore many titles in a manner similar to the Emperor's own Custodians. During the Great Crusade the Patriarch of the House bore no less than 75 titles including He whose claws rend all to ash, The immortal strider of misremembered paths, and He that conquers gods both conjured and imagined. Knights of other Houses sometimes are not keen to fight alongside House Moritain, viewing their dalliances in philosophy and scholarly arts to be a sign of weakness.[5]
House Moritain is sworn to the similarly scholarly Forge World of Graia and at the start of the Horus Heresy fielded some 125 Knights, 3/5th of which were Cerastus Patterns.[5] They fought beside Legio Astraman in the Battle of Beta-Garmon[2] and also engaged traitors in the Cataclysm of Iron.[4]
Notable Knights
- Dream of Crimson Fields - Questoris Pattern Knight. Its banner carries with it the tale of one of its first Knights fighting on Avardia during the first years of the Great Crusade.[4]
- Tormenting Echoes Fated to be Recalled - Knight Porphyrion piloted by Sylvarnyus Moritain, who was renowned amongst her house as a composer. While she earned few battlefield names during the Great Crusade, she would earn some 17 over the course of the Horus Heresy.[5]
