Imperial Armour is a range of product and a series of books produced by Forge World that detail the rules and background for the different miniatures produced by their company.

Imperial Armour was launched in The Citadel Journal #32 (1999) as a product range dedicated to resin add-ons and models, labelled as "ultra-cool, ultra-detailed, ultra-specialist add-ons" for Warhammer 40,000 tank kits.[1]

The limitations of plastic moulding in the 1990' was paramount into pushing Jervis Johnson and Tony Cottrell to create resin versions of armoured vehicles for the 40k Universe setting.[2b]

Imperial Armour expanded into a series of books produced by Forge World that detail the rules and background for the different miniatures produced by their company, and produced models for the entire range of Warhammer 40,000 factions.

Warwick Kinrade has been at the helm of writing rules and contents for the Imperial Armour series since the very first model was released [1][2a], until The Fall of Orpheus (2013), where he is not credited as a writer.[3]

There are two original softbound Imperial Armour books, followed by four Updates. They were produced by Fanatic for the Forge World staff in connection with the specialized miniature lines they produced based on pieces originally created in Epic scale. They were published from 2000 to 2006.

Hardbound Numbered Volumes

The popularity of the softbound editions and the Imperial Armour products encouraged the production of hardbound books, to heighten the quality of the range and the background that accompanied it. Players were encouraged to use the models in 40k games, only if their opponent was made aware beforehand of their presence on the tabletop.[4]

There are thirteen numbered hardbound Imperial Armour books that came out between 2003 and 2014

Second Editions

Six hardbound Imperial Armour books have Second Editions, updating previously published material for the 6th and 7th Editions of Warhammer 40K.
