Ironwing

The Ironwing was one of the six specialized "wings" of the Dark Angels Space Marine Legion during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy.
Overview
The Ironwing was dedicated to the use of overwhelming firepower on the battlefield. It was not a subtle wing, utilizing massed armor, artillery, and dreadnoughts. They excelled in siege breaking and the rapid onslaught of massed armor. Its Marshals were experts in the art of destruction of enemy war machines and heavy guns, often called upon to oversee the destruction of apocalyptic engines encountered by the First Legion in its early days. Created from the Hosts of Stone and Iron, the Ironwing also included a large amount of infantry in the form of heavy weapons units, Breachers, and Terminators. During the last years of the Great Crusade the Ironwing fielded the largest concentration of Terminators within the Dark Angels, including experimental patterns of armor unknown to the wider Space Marine Legions. These ere most commonly used to storm enemy fortresses.[3a]
The Ironwing took grievous losses in the early years of the Horus Heresy and by the end of the rebellion was a shadow of its former self. In time its inner circle became dominated by Dreadnoughts, but of all the Wings save the Dreadwing the Ironwing was most hated by the Mechanicum due to their hording of forbidden technology.[3a]
Ironwing units were equipped with heavily armored vehicles such as Land Raiders[1] and Dreadnoughts[2] for their missions.[1] They also utilized forbidden technologies such as the Excindio Battle-Automata, themselves neutered remains of the legendary Iron Men.[3]
