Justus Miale was a Sergeant in the Imperial Guard, who gave a report detailing his encounter with a dangerous xenos creature, which would later be identified as one of the first encounters with the Ymgarl Genestealer strain.[1]

Overview

Miale was stationed on Ymgarl, when he was dispatched to check on the condition of the Trojan Lunar research base, located on one of Ymgarl's moons, after its staff failed to report in for two days. Taking a shuttle to the moon, Miale led a squadron from his regiment to the research base where they were soon attacked by a tentacled xeno creature. The creature was quickly brought down and Miale gave the order to bag up its remains and store them in the shuttle so that they could be examined later. Once aboard the shuttle, however, the creature awoke and killed a Guardsman before Guardsman Gulao killed it with his flamer, leaving little left of its remains to be studied.[1]

With the creature dealt with, Miale led the squadron into the deserted base, where they found few signs of a battle and the body of a staff member who had committed suicide. The sight of the suicide made the squadron want to leave, but as Gulao had destroyed the remains of the creature that attacked them, Miale felt he had no choice but to discover what had happen to the staff and pressed on. Later in the network of tunnels beneath the base, they discovered Anders, one of the base's staff, who did not respond to them and whose face was ringed with small discs of discolored flesh. As they gathered around Anders, another of the xeno creatures attacked them killing another Guardsman, before it grabbed Gulao's face with its tentacles. The rest of the squadron fired upon it and it soon fell dead, with Gulao being remarkably unharmed. With a survivor and the remains of one of the creatures that attacked the base in their hands, Miale gave the order to evacuate and return to their shuttle. In his report after the encounter, Miale recommended a more thorough investigation into the xeno creatures was conducted; despite the fact that no signs of the creatures or the missing staff were discovered, during several searches of the now quarantined research base.[1]
