The Ketzok 17th Armoured (known informally as the 'Serpents') were an artillery regiment of the Imperial Guard known to have taken part in the Sabbat Worlds Crusade.[1a]

History

On Voltemand, the 'Serpents' were commanded to travel through the Voltemand Mirewoods to the Pavis Crossroads in the Bokore Valley. Once there they were to shell Voltis City and provide artillery cover for infantry operating in the valley.[1a]

En route to the Pavis Crossroads, the 'Serpents' were attacked by seven World Eater Traitor Marines, causing the loss of two Basilisks along with two full gun crews. Saved from the ambush by the Tanith First and Only, they proceeded to the crossroads and kept up an all night barrage.[1a]

Tricked by General Noches Sturm, who had overall command of the Voltis City offensive, Ortiz shelled the men of Tanith as they made their way back from taking Voltis City, resulting in the Ghosts losing nearly 300 men to the shelling, with a further 200 injured. This was considered by the men of the regiment to be a truly shameful incident, and many 'Serpents' resolved to sacrifice anything to wash away the stigma of having fired on a fellow Guard unit.[1a]

Later Ortiz would lead the 'Serpents' on Sapiencia, in the assault on Oskray Island.[1b]

Heraldry

The regiment's Basilisks were decorated in turquoise and gold, bearing feather decals. A feathered serpent design was painted on each vehicle, with the mouth forming the barrel of the main weapon.[1a]

Assets

The regiment consisted of 80 Basilisk self-propelled guns, as well as their gun crews. In addition, they had a large amount of support vehicles including Trojans and medical Chimeras.
