Kharaatan, known as One-Five-Four-Six to the Administratum, is an Imperial world.[1a]

During the Age of Strife, the planet's Human population devolved into worshiping an Eldar coven through psychic suggestion. This drove the planet into conflict with the newly formed Imperium during the Great Crusade, and the planet was invaded by a force of Salamanders and Night Lords led by their respective Primarchs, Vulkan and Konrad Curze. During the resulting campaign, the Night Lords committed an atrocity and butchered the populace of Khar-tann City. Vulkan was horrified by the act and nearly came to blows with Curze, but nonetheless the Night Haunter's plan worked and the rest of the planet surrendered bloodlessly shortly after.[1a]

As the planet's surviving population was herded into camps designated xenos collaborator vs. non-collaborator, the Eldar witch-lords escaped and wreaked havoc. They were eventually all killed, the last one a surrendering child slain by Vulkan's hand. The campaign would plague Vulkan's nightmares for years to come.[1]
