Khargoth is the Warlord of the Swords of Khargoth Warband, though before his fall he was a member of the [2] Swords of Praesium Chapter.[1]

History

His downfall began when he was and two Companies of the Swords of Praesium were sent to aid the Imperium world Acropolis Vega, after it was invaded by the forces of Chaos. Disaster struck however, soon after they made planetfall and a Warpstorm engulfed engulfed the system; cutting off Acropolis Vega from the Imperium for nearly 70 years. Isolated and overwhelmed by their opposition, Khargoth and several squads from the two Companies swore their loyalty to Chaos in return for their survival. When the Warpstorm finally abated, those squads had rallied behind Khargoth's leadership forming the Swords of Khargoth Warband and when an Imperial reclamation fleet arrived in Acropolis Vega's orbit; Khargoth led his newly formed Warband and other Chaos forces in attacking it. Though they were eventually forced to flee, Khargoth and his Warband have continued to plague the Imperium.[1]

Once such incident was during the Imperium's Forlorn Crusade, when they repeatedly fought the Warband in what became known as the War of Ashes. During that conflict, Khargoth and his Warband fought a war of scorched earth against the Imperium, burning entire worlds in their wake and throwing armies of Mutants, Cultists and worse against the Crusade. As the War against the Imperium's forces dragged on, Khargoth noted the prowess of the detachment of Knights from House Terryn, known as the Honourable Company, and singled them out for retribution. His Daemonic assassins killed one of the Honourable Company's Knights, while he slept and left the body in pieces for the other Knights to find. This vile act enraged the surviving Knights of the Honourable Company and they vowed to slay Khargoth and destroy his Warband. When the War of Ashes finally ended, Khargoth and his Warband were defeated by the Imperium, but managed to escape and flee into the void - with the Honourable Company following close behind them, determined to fulfill the vow they made to their lost comrade.[2]
