Machiel is a Battle Brother of the Flesh Tearers, who fell to the Black Rage during the Devastation of Baal.[1]

History

His downfall began, when the Blood Thirster Ka'Bandha led Khorne's Daemons in invading the moon Baal Primus, as the Flesh Tearers were defending it against the Tyranids. In the battle that followed, Machiel and nine other Flesh Tearers fought one of the Daemons. Despite being outnumbered, however, the Daemon proved to be very powerful and killed nearly all of them, except for Machiel. Though he was heavily wounded, Machiel vowed the Daemon would kill no more of his Battle Brothers and that he would destroy the creature. Despite his vow, however, the Daemon easily beat Machiel and knocked him to the ground. As he lay there, Machiel lamented that despite the combined strength of the Sons of Sanguinius, they were being overwhelmed. He then mournfully thought that perhaps it was well, that their Primarch, Sanguinius, had not lived to see his Homeworld, of Baal destroyed. The victorious Daemon then stood over Machiel, who regretted that he was not able to kill the creature as he had vowed. He then waited to die, but before the Daemon could kill Machiel, it was destroyed by Chaplain Appollus with a Bolt Weapon. The Chaplain then knelt next to Machiel and began shooting at other Daemons that were nearby. Even as he did so, Appollus told Machiel that though the Battle Brother's body was broken, embracing the Black Rage would allow him to continue fighting. This would let Machiel claim vengeance against the Daemons before he finally died. The Chaplain then continued to tell Machiel that his fight was over and to embrace the Black Rage. He finally did so and the last thing, Machiel heard was a snarl that seemed to swallow the moon...[1]
