Malakbael was a Shrine World of the Imperium located within the Imperium Nihilus.[1a]

History

At an unknown point in the planet's history, Krieg infantrymen fought overwhelming Heretek forces on Malakbael. Brother Tormund Egler was a particularly devout member of his Krieg squad and preached to his entrenched comrades.[2]

After the discovery of the mysterious Choral Engine on the world by Inquisitor Glori Emagna, Malakbael became a vital world within the Imperium Nihilus. As such, it was a mustering point for Indomitus Crusade Fleet Quartus under Fleetmaster Trincus Abconcis, who assembled a great host there in preparation for an expected Chaos attack after warning by the Grey Knights. The Choral Engine itself was heavily fortified in a bastion dubbed the Fortress of Light.[1a]

In the subsequent Battle of Malak, Malakbael was assailed by the forces of the World Eaters led by Angron himself, who was attracted by the Choral Engine. In the final stages of the battle, Angron was empowered by Khorne to destroy the Choral Engine, causing a catastrophic chain reaction which saw the entire planet blown apart. In its wake is a Warp Rift from which Daemons of Khorne erupt.[1c]
