Mannheim Gap

From Warhammer 40k - Lexicanum
Jump to: navigation, search

The Mannheim Gap is a canyon on the planet Armageddon, located near Hive Volcanus on the continent of Armageddon Prime.[1][2]

Cutting a path through the Volcanus Mountains, the Gap is a tectonically-active region prone to quakes. Dust storms are also known to rip through the canyon frequently.[2]

History

During the Third War for Armageddon, the Mannheim Gap came under the control of the invading orks not long after the initial landings. The orks set up great workshops in the canyon and set to work constructing scrap-titans. Due to the threat these posed to Hive Volcanus, the Celestial Lions took up the challenge and entered the canyon, hoping to destroy the orks' machines before they could be activated.[2]

Unfortunately for the Space Marines, they found that not only were the scrap-titans active, they were waiting in ambush. Of the five hundred Marines that entered the Gap, less than a fifth managed to escape the disastrous battle.[2]

Trivia

Conflicting sources

The map shown on the official Third War for Armageddon campaign website shows the Mannheim Gap located directly south of Hive Volcanus.[1] The novella Blood and Fire, however, states that the Gap is north of the Hive.[2]
