Navradaran of the Ephoroi[1]

Navradaran of the Ephoroi is a member of the Adeptus Custodes , one of the few to leave the Imperial Palace before the Indomitus Crusade.[2a] Navradaran admired the human spirit[2c] and his counsel taught his friend Shield-Captain Valerian to see humans as more than mere irritants.[2a]

Biography

Navradaran was an acquaintance of Inquisitor-Lord Hovash Phaelias of the Ordo Xenos, who approached the Custodian during an investigation into Rogue Trader Naaman Vinal misusing his Letter of Marque when he uncovered unusually regular contact between the trader and an astropath in the personal service of the Speaker for the Chartist Captains. Phaelias believed something of xenos origin acquired by Vinal was being smuggled to Terra.[1c]

When Phaelias disappeared shortly after ordering an orbital quarantine, Navradaran apprehended Inquisitor Erasmus Crowl breaking into an Adeptus Arbites Precinct-Fortress[1a] in his own investigation of heretical activity beginning at around the same time. He told the Inquisitor to report anything he discovered before the end of Sanguinala in four days.[1b] Crowl concluded that there was a Dark Eldar that had been smuggled to Terra and escaped its captors attempting to gain access to the Sanctum Imperialis through underground passages while all eyes were focussed on the Eternity Gate.[1d] Navradaran and four other Custodians accompanied Crowl in the hunt,[1e] impaling the Dark Eldar as it tormented a weakened Crowl.[1f]

Thirteenth Black Crusade

During the Thirteenth Black Crusade, Navradaran was often away from the Imperial Palace as part of Captain-General Trajann Valoris' attempt to collect the scattered Silent Sisterhood to Terra.[2d] While within the Palace, he spoke to Tribune Heracleon about a dream he had had of Valerian's name, and agreed that it was a sign that he was marked for the Hetaeron Guard.[2b]

When the Great Rift, Navradaran was making his way back to Terra aboard the commandeered Black Ship Enduring Abundance, stopping at every known or rumoured convent of witch-hunters in the subsector as well as searching for stray vessels in the warp such as the Cadamara carrying Sister Tanau Aleya. By the time the Enduring Abundance returned to Terra, the Second Battle of Terra was already underway.[2d]

The Dark City

Navradaran disappeared after the battle, journeying with Erasmus Crowl to discover the truth of the conspiracy the Inquisitor had uncovered. The two travel to Luna, discovering that the Mechanicum is bargaining with the Dark Eldar to save the Golden Throne.[4a] Together with Luc Spinoza and an Inquisitorial retinue, Navradaran move into Commorragh to interrupt the negotiations between Fabricator-General Oud Oudia Raskian and Archon Shae-Morvain of the Kabal of the Still-Living Knife.[4b] Upon Crowl's exposure of the heretical Black Throne project, Navradaran lashes out at the Xenos and massacres many of them before helping bring down the entire Xenos complex on top of himself.[4c]
