Organicists

The Organicists are a group within the Adeptus Mechanicus that study the complex workings of the flesh.

Overview

Within the Adeptus Mechanicus, there exists the view that the flesh is weak and serves as a hindrance in most things, which is why its members focus almost entirely on machinery and metal. However, the Organicists believe otherwise; they see biological matter as a simplistic form of machine - the brain is the computer, and the body's diverse workings are a biological apparatus.

Organicists tend to be Genetors or members of the Magos Biologis that study organic matter in order to improve it in many possible ways. To this end, they grow creatures both weird and terrible in bio-vats. Another noted trait among this sect is that where an ordinary Techpriest might upgrade his body over the course of his career with bionic limbs, data repositories and other cyberware, Organicists are more likely to add biological components such as glands to their bodies, increase their muscle mass with stimms, or enhance their senses with laboratory-grown specimens.

The majority of Organicists do not entirely reject the practices of their Mechanicus brethren; in fact, some members do indeed add bionics to themselves. The primary difference is that the Organicists do not automatically reject their biological components as inherently weak or superfluous. Thus, despite the sometimes bizarre organic substitutes they use in place of conventional augmetics, they are not divergent enough from the Cult Mechanicus to suffer persecution. Furthermore, their skills are often sought in order to service the remaining organic components of older Magi.
